Bouchard has been on the ice for ZERO goals against at 5 on 5 in the tournament and leads it at +8 (in addition to his PP production)......
Jim Rogers@10XHockey

Canada is down 5-4 to NORWAY with 9 minutes left. And I need to say this. This is a CANADA problem. And it has three names. Darnell Nurse. Evan Bouchard. Cam Talbot. Let's start with the defense. Nurse and Bouchard together on the ice is a DISASTER. It doesn't matter who you pair them with. Every time they're out there, Canada is defending with two pylons who have zero awareness of what's happening behind them. Bouchard in the offensive zone? Fine. The guy can move the puck. He can quarterback a power play. Nobody is arguing that. But the SECOND that puck gets cleared out of the zone? He has NO IDEA what he's doing. None. He's lost. He's spinning. He's watching the play happen around him like a spectator. And Nurse? Same story. Different chapter. Edmonton has been living with this defensive liability for YEARS. Every Oilers fan watching this game right now is having flashbacks. This is the same movie they've seen 82 games a season. Nurse getting walked. Bouchard getting caught flat footed. The whole world is watching it now. Now Talbot. Three goals from distance that are absolute MUFFINS. Shots that should NEVER be going in at this level. These are saves that a Liiga goalie makes in his sleep. A DEL goalie stops those blindfolded. But Talbot is letting them through like he's playing beer league on a Sunday morning. Meanwhile Norway is playing the 10X style. Carrying deep. Attacking inside the dots. Using the space behind the net. Back to front passes. D jumping into the play. THAT is how you play hockey. Canada has Crosby. They have Celebrini. They have the talent to win this game. But talent means NOTHING when your back end is a revolving door and your goalie can't stop a beach ball from 40 feet. Nine minutes. Figure it out. Let's go Canada. 🇨🇦 #IIHFWorlds #TeamCanada

I'd like to see the shot quality data, but from this distance Sebastian Cossa's AHL career looks pretty darn solid to me.

@SeeRedAllDay As I recall, the piece most people wanted him to upgrade was Logan Stankoven. Which, as events have shown, would have been very difficult to manage.

@lakelikeglass19 It's one of those baffling NHL things that drive me batty. Does the trade improve your team? Then do it. Does it not? Then don't. Worrying about the rest of it is ridiculous.

@JonathanWillis While I agree with that sentiment, it’s not the majority opinion and it’s not uncommon, so let’s not act disingenuous

I actually have no issue with Vegas sticking a spoke in the tires of Edmonton and Los Angeles. They're not here to help them. But firing Cassidy and then keeping him locked up speaks volumes about how much the organization cares about its people. Not for the first time, either.

@JonathanWillis People when teams don’t want to trade in division: “yea fair enough” People when teams apply the same logic to coaches: “fold the franchise!”

As for Bruce Cassidy, sources indicate that was not part of the conversation and his status is unchanged as of this morning Vegas is not inclined to give permission to Edmonton or LA. We will see about Toronto

The Vegas Golden Knights have lost their appeal of NHL-imposed sanctions for not making the team available to the media, meaning coach John Tortorella's fine and the loss of a second-round draft pick stands, sources told @emilymkaplan. spr.ly/6018BBAFB0

@teamdean44 Covering the bases is Carle, or Malhotra, or Nelson, or Vellucci. Even Laviolette.

@JonathanWillis I believe they aren't sure what kind of shenanigans Vegas is going to be allowed to get away with. So they are covering the bases.

Toronto's power play implodes, its 5v5 goal share and expected goal share collapse, it allows more shots than anyone else in the league, it can't defend a lead, and of its two stars one guy is gone and the other guy looks like a shadow of himself. Let's talk to that coach!

Hearing a formal interview with Berube is expected after some initial conversation between he and Bowman. Permission to speak with Bruce Cassidy had still not been granted as of Sunday night.

@teamdean44 If they're Cassidy-or-bust, there's no value in window dressing. If they aren't, they should interview people they'd seriously consider as a Plan B. Which is exactly what I think they're doing, and also why I'm so judgmental of the process. Berube shouldn't be on that list.

@JonathanWillis So they are supposed to twiddle their thumbs till betman finally calls his pet franchise and tells them to let Cassidy interview?

@JonathanWillis @gretzkytokurri it’s an interview… you’re way smarter than this man. Take a step back from the ledge. Ludicrous behaviour.

@teamdean44 It's a little like when a team interviews Peter Chiarelli for a GM job. It indicates process.
