@ProfPeteSmith Interesting, Pete. Open discussion always. avoidance works most of the time for most people but it doesn’t alter risk. Active evidence based dialogue should move the dial

Could I be provocative to suggest that we need to consent parents of young children where we decide NOT to do OIT for milk, egg and peanut? By doing nothing we are doing something!!!

We are looking forward to sharing updates on the CORAL babies at 5 years later in the year, and comparisons between the CORAL babies and a post pandemic cohort (the FLORAL babies) next year

Researchers from RCSI and @CHI_Ireland write in @JAMANetworkOpen on how the COVID-19 pandemic shaped infant development. They reflect on new evidence showing complex effects of social restrictions, parenting and protective factors. ➡️ jamanetwork.com/journals/jaman… #RSCIdiscover

Why do siblings protect against allergy in infants? Our paper in Allergy shows they share immune-modulatory gut microbes & metabolic functions linked to lower food allergen sensitization. Big thanks to co-authors and PI Liam O’Mahony (@Pharmabiotic, @UCC). onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/al…

A new RCSI research project will examine the long-term health and developmental effects of the pandemic on children. ‘Floral’ is a follow-up to a study which found that babies born in 2020 had improved gut microbes and fewer allergies. More➡️irishtimes.com/health/your-we…

Sensitization does not mean allergy. True food allergy is something much smaller. Without a clinical history of reaction, you don't end up at a diagnosis. So that panel food test you just asked for is just a terrible, terrible idea... link.springer.com/article/10.118… @DrDougMackMD

Here's the thing... there's zero evidence that a dog sniffing your child's food can detect peanuts for them. Get one if that's how you want to spend your money but don't do it because you think there's science to your choice. Sincerely, Allergist

@JonathanHourih1 @ad_rogers @FoodAllergy Hi, sorry, I don't understand this. Are you saying peanut oil is safe for those with a peanut allergy as long as it's used for frying food in - like fries from a well known take away company, for example? I'm sure I've read this wrong....

(sticks head up out of foxhole) Is it still a partisan clickbait hellscape out here masquerading as “free speech?” Thinking about a small scale reengagement deleting nearly all but a few follows…I miss the utility but not the outrage. Advice?
