I don’t want to generalize that way - zig is a great language & we owe a lot of Bun’s success to Zig, and other projects like Ghostty and Tigerbeetle don’t have the stability challenges that Bun has had
Mixing manual memory management with GC is hard. Drop/destructors and compile-time tools for memory safety make it easier to avoid many classes of bugs Bun runs into

genuine question
@jarredsumner is this view correct:
- writing Bun in Zig gave you a lot of freedom, expressing ideas without constraints of borrow checker, having the ability to freely use memory as you please, experiment with proper abstractions/ownership models etc.
- then switching to Rust gives you memory safety, which is beneficial for Bun when it wants to be considered mature and reliable, so that it can drive adoption in companies?
Like a two-stage development process:
- pre 1.0 - unstable, dev speed high, new features, etc.
- post 1.0 - stable, dev speed low(er), focus on reliability and security.

@CreativeDeduct Its an argument to not raise pay dramatically but it fails to make the argument about the excess and need to pay CEOs the amounts they get. Is a CEO worth 100s of times a Prime minster.... this one probably but I cant see millions needed as a pay reward

The median salary of Tesco’s 300,000 employees is around £28,000. Giving them all at £72,000 pay rise would cost over £21 billion. Tesco made £3 billion last year. So, even if the CEO took a 85% pay cut as you propose, I’m not sure it would work.

I live in London, and I'm well travelled. London is one of the safest places I've ever been to. It is a beautiful, diverse and vibrant city and there's no 'no go' zone, absolutely none. Every bit of London, be it posh or poor, is remarkably safe by international standards.

Compressed working weeks are a fairly common in the private sector and help working parents and carers. I used to work in primary schools, so I’ll try to explain it in a way you might understand. A 40 hour working week can be 4x10 hour days or 5x 8 hour days. I hope this helps.

A council job with a four-day working week for five days’ pay. Nice if you can get it. Not so nice when taxpayers are paying the bill. We deserve full-time services for full-time pay. The @Conservatives will ban this ridiculous policy and get Britain working again.

Clearly cant take the piss. But like today I worked early hours. Left to court for reporting then back to work
