@nick_bcarter thinking about it on a sort of general philosophical level of like what would people do for money and their career has made me even more sure. Maybe I just hang out with the wrong people but it’s hard to live in 2024 and see that much good in people due that much cash

I'm very aware people can fail, let me down, be toxic or do bad things but I don't assume they will. I would rather think as positively about them as possible (based on their track record) and be right than think the worst and be pleasantly surprised

@nick_bcarter i dunno how you can say Sinner is truthful when he went to Ridyah and said it wasn’t for the money. He lied because it was the PR move to do. When he got accused of doping, obviously he took the path with least possible consequences. He’s never gonna own it? so we will never know

@nick_bcarter they have so much on the line. their career, reputation, their salary. probably their entire families livelihood. why wouldn’t you lie and get out of it if you could? when is the last time a tennis player was like, yeah i was doping? never?. there’s no incentive to be truthful.

@nick_bcarter I’ve also spent years publishing biochemistry and peer reviewing papers where people twist and ring out every piece of data they can to make their argument. I’m not a cynic, I know what people do when it’s comes to science and law

Still 2 days to vote on the polls I put out. I'm hoping to get as wide a fan picture as possible on the issues around doping in tennis as well as the specific cases of Jannik Sinner and Iga Swiatek So far responses are fairly divided but erring towards a positive view of tennis

@nick_bcarter I'm shocked by some of the results of the polls you're giving. I wonder if it's more of "Tennis Twitter"bubble" type of results or the general consensus. To me, though, when there's smoke there's fire with this type of thing, and there's a lot of smoke across tennis right now.

@nick_bcarter personally I think taking a non batch tested supplement when you can get it through a tour approved method AND your long term coach leaves the day you submit that “reason” is a seriously fishy coincedence too. but … that’s what happened

@nick_bcarter I think it’s naive to think that in the last 5/6 years that sperm, tortellini, melatonin, massage and god damn whatever else excuses tennis players have made up are all genuine. we will never know which ones aren’t true but like that’s not a coincidence

Assisted dying being voted on by a government hell bent on cutting costs is somewhat concerning. I think it has a place in healthcare but that’s not why they’re voting for it at all.
