@4ThangsVR I think that's fair. More vr devs need to get publicly louder where it matters. The big devs making 8-figures per year all basically abandon sharing on social platforms and retreat to Discord once they find success.

@JNavok teens don't buy headsets, parents buy them for xmas. my guess is because no new budget headset came out in 2025.
quest 2 sold big in covid. quest 3s came out in 2024. quest 3s usage in f2p overtook quest 2 for us recently.

Any VR studio lucky enough to have been acquired by Meta has lived two years longer than they should have and gotten at least a hefty severance package unlike the unacquired ones that just went bust.
The VR market is dead, Lina Khan was a disaster who tried to make the case for market monopoly when the market wasn’t even existing yet, and The Verge reporters appear to be so bad at their jobs that it makes me question if they have editors.

I'll go a step further: Horizon Worlds being shut down is the best news possible for consumer VR
Meta's insistence to both own the platform (Quest + OS) and the first-party content (Horizon Worlds) created a palpable COI and routinely undercut third-party devs (i.e. the groups making the ecosystem successful)
With Horizon Worlds out of the way, hopefully Meta aligns its own interests with that of 3p devs (to the end of producing more content users are actually interested in)

Need to check Kevin here. Meta is not shutting down their metaverse project. Horizon worlds is just getting focused on mobile and desktop, like Roblox. Moreover, they are continuing their VR work and they plan to keep investing more in the coming years. All they are doing is turning off the VR version of their Roblox competitor.

Even if Horizon Worlds had achieved the same success of the top social VR app, VRChat, my guess is that it would have been labeled a failure at Meta.

@Rengle820 GTag and Golf+ have sold so many headsets. We get reports here and there that players buy a headset in order to play our game or get into our videos... but definitely not at the level of you guys.
So much to build to get to this level.

I went into Horizon Worlds once and never found a reason to go back. I’ve had every headset since the DK2 and like and use my Quest and Vision Pro weekly. But I could never wrap my head around the massive $$’s they poured in and changing the name of the company to Meta.
