I’m convinced the gap in experience between a native mobile app and a mobile web app boils down primarily to user input at this point. The performance gap is illusory for most use-cases & devices. Safari iOS handling of how a keyboard displays, the havoc it wreaks on the page, and limited APIs to control it are a fundamental issue. Once 120fps animations are enabled by default that’ll be the icing on the cake. But any diminishment in the ability for a human to reliably enter information into the page is a deal breaker.

@aarolston He doesn't control each instance but he does have massive influence of the future of the project. It's a business risk as it may not longer get the support it's seen in the past. If you are happy with it as is now there is no real issue.

@notphanan @michaelpumo This is mostly a problem for toggle UI that has unclear on/off state. If you can't tell by the UI, redesign it (or use a regular checkbox)

@michaelpumo I’d leave the text as-is (“Dark mode”). The state of the checkbox is for the truthy value of the label, i.e. if it “off” it can be read as “No darkmode” or “Dark mode off” and vice versa.

Just saw a tutorial that uses <button> to create a, well, "ToggleButton," despite the fact that it's actually an on/off switch and therefore should be a checkbox. FE developers, don't do this. Please learn proper, semantic, accessible HTML before attempting any framework.
