Excited to share the pre-print describing our efforts to stabilize the HCMV gB ectodomain in a prefusion-like conformation. We and others have now routinely stabilized class I viral fusion proteins, but class III viral fusogens have been more difficult.

@wtyppod @fancywookiee @AliceAvizandum And last thought [based on only 30min. of a 3h biology WTYP]... @notliamanders0n sparked this thought based on tape deck storage. Researchers are actually very interested in developing DNA as digital information storage. It's because you can store so many bits in a tiny space.

@wtyppod @fancywookiee @AliceAvizandum Solid-phase synthesis is how we manually synthesize a stretch of DNA with any programmable sequence, base by base. The DNA is actually still dissolved in solution, but one end gets chemically attached to a solid support. Then you start building from the other end, base by base.
