Airbnb CEO @bchesky says more AI founders should be starting consumer businesses.
"I'm on the board of Y Combinator. 87% of companies are enterprise companies per batch."
"Enterprise is awesome... but the biggest prize is consumer. That is what's going to reach daily life for billions of people."
"Think about all the little parts of daily life that are kind of annoying. Pay attention to whoever's in your life and ask: 'How could their daily life be a little bit easier?'"

The first @Airbnb guest slept on an air mattress 18 years ago.
October 2007: Amol Surve, a design student from Arizona State University, needed a place to stay in San Francisco for a design conference.
Hotels? Fully booked or too expensive.
Then he found Airbedandbreakfast dot com.
He reached out to the founders directly and became their very first guest sleeping on an air mattress in their apartment.
That was the beginning of something big.
It proved that people would trust strangers enough to pay to stay in their homes.
It showed that affordable, authentic travel experiences had a market.
Today, Airbnb is one of the largest marketplace outcomes ever.
Sometimes the biggest revolutions start with the smallest acts of trust.

American is on her honeymoon in Honolulu Hawaii
“Travel in the US is dead and it’s all because of corporate greed”
She shows everything is billed separately now. They don’t even let you sit in beach chairs anymore, one chair in the sun is $200 to use, most sit empty. She’s been charged $500 just in “resort fees,” and the hotel doesn’t even include parking anymore, you have to pay for that too per day
“All of there's like chairs up front. We thought they were all occupied. But no, there's a 200 fee to reserve one of those chairs in the sun.”
“Go to any other country for your honeymoon, for your vacation. Save your hard-earned cash and do that because in the US you're never going to feel welcome as a guest”
Americans are just outright robbed in every possible way everywhere they go now…

The higher you climb in an organization, the more essential it becomes to maintain a clear boundary between what your role demands and who you are deep down. s.hbr.org/3UCXUYv

.@levie says a lot of productivity was rate-limited by how fast someone could use a computer. But once that’s no longer the constraint, jobs start to change. “Your job is now orchestration, integration of work, planning, task management, reviewing, auditing.” The individual contributor becomes a manager of agents.
