About DELETING or PRIVATING unrelated videos or pivoting…. Tectone is correct… and it’s not anecdotal. What we know officially from YouTube is 3 important things… Deleting, Unlisting or Privating Videos eliminates the connection to the viewers/subscribers associated with THOSE VIDEOS. When publishing a video a test sample size of your audience is shown those videos first usually over the first 48-72 hours (which is why the performance drops off or explodes based on their response). And finally, that YouTube identifies similar viewers to the ones a video performed well with outside your existing audience, which is why MOST views come from first time viewers (rather than returning viewers or subscribers) when it performs well…. When taken together, that seems to indicate that when you pivot the direction of your content… removing content that was made for an audience you no longer cater to, is the right move. At every upload you are more likely to have text pool your current content is more aligned to and will likely perform better with. This optimizes for viewer enjoyment. I think all of this adds up to what @Tectone is experiencing and showing here. And it’s completely inline with public statements from key YouTube employees, as well as what they have said to me in the interviews I’ve done with them on my channels, as well as offline as well.
