Seneca Falls deserves better. Most days lately, I'm writing about housing, energy, or something like that. But after last week, I had to share some thoughts about the community that raised me, and a place I still care a lot about today. joshdurso.substack.com/p/an-open-lett…

Utilities say approve billions now or customers will pay more later. What they don’t say is that customers repay the full cost plus profit, and there’s little clear evidence past spending improved reliability. If we’re footing the bill, we deserve real answers. joshdurso.substack.com/p/if-utilities…

Bryson continues denying that his representatives have talked to PGA Tour about a return. He also denied signing with LIV in early 2022, only to admit in antitrust lawsuit he had already committed months before jumping to Saudi circuit

I think two lessons from LIV will be ... 1. You can't solve time problems with money. It took 40 years of playing the Masters before people *really* started to care. You can't speed that up by signing big checks. You can't microwave history. 2. A modicum of humility goes a long way. Thumping your chest out of the gate and saying "we're gonna redefine a 200-year-old sport over the next few seasons" is not a good strategy. It might eventually be true (spoiler: it wasn't), but it does the opposite of what it probably feels like it's going to do. Most fans are smart, and immense hubris is rarely attractive in any business setting.

The Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia has issued the following statement on the future of LIV Golf: "PIF has made the decision to fund LIV Golf only for the remainder of the 2026 season. The substantial investment required by LIV Golf over a longer term is no longer consistent with the current phase of PIF's investment strategy. This decision has been made in light of PIF's investment priorities and current macro dynamics. The LIV Golf Board has created a committee of independent directors to evaluate strategic alternatives for its future beyond PIF's funding horizon. LIV Golf has substantially grown the game globally through its transformational and positive impact. It has forever changed the game of golf for the better. “PIF remains committed to deploying capital internationally in line with its investment strategy, including its substantial current and future investments in various sports as a priority sector."

With the Saudi PIF officially cutting LIV Golf’s funding at the end of the season, they have sent out a press release stating: “LIV Golf is transitioning from a foundational launch phase to a diversified, multi-partner investment model, with a formal process underway to attract long-term financial partners.” They have also announced there will be a new independent board, led by Eugene Davis, the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of PIRINATE Consulting Group LLC and Jon Zinman, the founder and managing member of JZ Advisors LLC. The league is also officially reporting their strongest financial performance yet in 2026, with 100% year over year revenue growth. They say the new board will be focused on “institutionalizing the league, formalizing its ownership structure, and evaluating the range of strategic opportunities”. @livgolf_league

Expect spin that PIF always planned to divest. It didn't. LIV was Yasir's baby, and the framework agreement had him atop PGA Tour Enterprises (along with Augusta membership!). He's bailing because the ship is going down and he'd rather not be photographed at the helm

I'm not sure there's a bigger self-inflicted casualty of golf's civil war than Jon Rahm. Hurt reputation by taking $ he said he didn't need, torched years of major prime, put Ryder Cup eligibility in jeopardy over a silly fight, after turning down PGA Tour's Koepka exemption might not have a place to play next year

Scottie Scheffler spoke ahead of the Cadillac Championship about what it would mean if he were to complete the Career Grand Slam at the US Open in a few weeks: “Yeah, I would love to be able to win the US Open. It's a tournament that I love. I love my country, I would love to be able to win my National Open. And I've had some success at that tournament before and I think it suits my style of game. I'm excited to go to Shinnecock this year and hopefully get it done.” If he were to lift the US Open trophy at Shinnecock in June, he would join Gene Sarazen, Ben Hogan, Gary Player, Jack Nicklaus, Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy as the only players to complete the Career Grand Slam. @PGATOUR @cadillac_champ

Some of LIV's propagandist accounts would like you to believe the New Orleans event had to be moved because the conditions of the practice facility are "substandard" so Brian Manzella, one of the game's top instructors, strolled over to debunk that silliness.

The tee line, turf and practice green refurbished Bayou Oaks at City Park Driving Range is pure. Anyone can even see this from the pics. And the golf course is in great shape. No LIV event, but great for regular Joes and Jane’s!

SO. MUCH. WATER. Since March 1st, Rochester has picked up a whopping 9.34" of rainfall. And it's going to pour again tomorrow. We're already at number 3 on the all-time list of wettest March + Aprils on record. We will almost assuredly jump to number 2 after tomorrow. When that happens, this will go down as our wettest March & April stretches since 1873.

MORE RAIN: While we'll likely start Wednesday dry, the afternoon won't be nearly as kind to us. Waves of rain, locally heavy at times, will overspread WNY by afternoon. The focus for heaviest rainfall will be from Rochester eastward where totals could approach or even exceed 1" of water. While we certainly don't need the rain, these totals should pose only a limited risk for minor flooding. Plus, no severe weather, so that's another win.

LIV Golf's Louisiana event is officially postponed. There is currently no LIV event scheduled between June 7th and July 23rd. Governor Jeff Landry and Economic Development Secretary Bourgeois have released a joint statement about the event being postponed and potentially played in the fall. "First, we want to thank Zurich and PGA TOUR leadership for another outstanding tournament this past weekend. We are proud of the continued partnership and the opportunities this event brings to our state each year." Secretary Bourgeois spoke with LIV Golf CEO Scott O'Neil on Friday and was informed that the organization seeks to postpone its June 2026 event in New Orleans to explore a potential event this fall. The state has already paid $3.2 million in accordance with the contract. LIV is expected to return all state incentive funds, with the exception of the $2 million already invested in upgrades for City Park, ensuring those improvements remain in place for the community." "We appreciate LIV's good-faith efforts and look forward to maintaining our partnership as we continue conversations around an event later this year." "We are grateful for the work of our local partners and the collaboration that supported this effort. Louisiana continues to move forward with strong momentum, and we remain focused on opportunities that deliver value for our communities."

Someone’s stepping up to start a business downtown and the reaction online is exactly what you’d expect. Good thing it’s being built for actual customers, not the comment section. And as usual, the loudest naysayers were never going to shop there or set foot downtown anyway.

Downtown Rochester could soon see its first grocery store in years. The planned store that may take over part of the Sibley Building could open as early as this summer and would bring fresh food within walking distance for residents and workers. 13wham.com/news/local/pro…
