Back in July, 2025, @firepitstories was brought in by @KemperSports to document the building of the fifth course at @streamsong, a David McLay Kidd design. Can’t say enough about Kidd and his crew. Their courses are “fun,” and the fact that they have so much fun building them definitely factors into the finished product. We appreciate the opportunity and all of hospitality we received from the resort and staff as we chased sunrises and sets and everything in between.
Lots more Streamsong stories and content in the works.🔥🙏

An impressive tour today @streamsong 's new @DavidMcLayKidd course. The short par 3 twelfth is an absolute stunner. Coming in 2026.

It’s not the coolest thing about documenting @DavidMcLayKidd’s new course at @streamsong, but finding teeth from a Megalodon is unlike anything I’ve ever experienced roaming raw land with an architect. 🦈

Spent this past week @streamsong working on the next 18 holes. First hole is roughed in, it’s dramatic! So much fun to be playing in these sand piles!

@bschneider126 @GCAJoeA Cool. I haven't seen as much as you, where else does Ross have bunkers and greens and green surrounds like that?
Did you only use photos from before the L & M renovation?
English

@JoshLesnik @GCAJoeA Not at all… they’re a mixture. Roughly half the holes are still as Ross built them, while the bunkers on the holes Langford added/changed reflect his style. I wanted to celebrate that unique architectural heritage so we simply restored each bunker in the style of its creator.

Skokie CC, Glencoe, Illinois
Skokie CC was founded in 1897 on the north side of Chicago. A “mutt” of a golf course, it was an original 9 holes built by Herbert Twiddie. A few years later Tom Bendelow built an 18 hole course which was later redone by Donald Ross and after that by L&M.
The 1st and 10th holes set you off high on a ridge and take you down into a flat plains land which make up the bulk of the golf course. The characteristics of the course offer a variety into some various golden age architecture. The routing and fairways are fairly narrow in nature. Driving the golf ball is a premium as you must maneuver classic steep faced Ross fairway bunkers, and L&M echelon bunkering that line up one by one often times hiding each other. @bschneider126 most recent work highlights that bunkering and the results are magnificent.
The holes give plenty of variety - short and longer length par 3 and 4’s and dogleg left/right par 4 and 5’s. There are scoring opportunities but maneuvering the greens present a challenge. The greens are fairly generous in size, but also offer plenty of slopes and breaks in all directions. They are firm and fast and roll like a glass table top. Superintendent Don Cross and his staff have the course in perfect condition.
The membership at Skokie are very proud of their rich tradition and history. Plenty of national competitions have been held at Skokie including the 1922 US Open won by Gene Sarazen. Skokie CC is a golf course you can play every single day and never get bored. I had heard great things about SCC and can attest every bit was true. I’m already looking forward to when I can get back to play again.

English

@bschneider126 @GCAJoeA Don't you think the bunkers are more L & M than Ross?
English

@GCAJoeA Glad you enjoyed Skokie, Joe... they have been a wonderful client. The set of greens is terrific and the Ross bunkering is some of the most eclectic work I’ve seen from him. It was a pleasure putting it back together and it keeps getting better thanks to Don Cross and his team.
