Lest we forget

I remember the late Ken Wilkinson of Solihull - #BattleOfBritain Spitfire pilot, proper gentleman, and absolute lover of red wine. I had the honour of knowing him for several years and will always treasure his humour and stories. Always forever grateful to him and “The Few.”

Pleased to learn that Solihull Tree Wardens have been successful in securing a grant to plant a community orchard in Richmond Road/Barn Lane Recreation Ground. Great addition to an already fab open space!

*Community XMAS TREE RETURNS TO HOBS MOAT ROAD SHOPPING PARADE/SHOPS* Pleased to have secured the support & a generous donation from a local business to bring back the tradition of a Tree here (at NO cost to the Taxpayer). One was last positioned here 5 years ago (December 2019!)

Today, we remember the sacrifices made by all those involved in the D-Day landings. On this day 80 years ago, more than 5,000 ships and landing craft delivered 150,000 troops to five beaches in Normandy. 4,440 Allied soldiers lost their lives on D-Day - the first day of Operation Overlord, which ultimately brought about the liberation of German-occupied Western Europe. #DDay80

As a nation we are and will forever be in the debt of the veterans (of all allied nations) of D-Day who this day 80 years ago made the ultimate sacrifice to ensure freedom triumphed over tyranny. Solihull commemorates this evening lighting the Beacon in Elmdon Park @ 9.00pm
