Beds & Herts on tour, with a trip south of the M25 for @Ratcliff1Rob & I today, providing a paramedic led DSA at Epsom Derby!

@mattstevenssja @stjohnambulance @_pro_cloud @SJA_Logistics Oh? Are we meant to be signing things out?! 😜
English

Another day spent with some really great @stjohnambulance people learning all about our Asset Management System @_pro_cloud to see how we manage our assets and medicines. Thanks to the @SJA_Logistics team for delivering another brilliant session

@danbevis @IOWNHS @04worsfoldd @OFFICIALIOWAS It’s close enough! Absolutely love the change of going over there - and the friendliness of the people! We’ll definitely be back if we can!
English

@Josh_R137 @IOWNHS @04worsfoldd Being there is practically like the Caribbean, isn’t it?! Thanks for all you’ve done whilst supporting the @OFFICIALIOWAS team.
English

The views & sunsets on IOW never cease to amaze me… 3 days done on @IOWNHS with @04worsfoldd - double para is a rare treat since qualifying!
Now to relax for 2 weeks in the Caribbean!

@nqpcharlie If they’re comfortable going in the back then great! We have cameras & an intercom here which I find useful… I usually give some red flags to look for & let me know if they happen or anything changes!
English

@nqpcharlie I find it easier having been an ECA previously - but making sure they know what they’re comfortable with & boundaries (I.E. don’t start any new treatment without discussion 1st). If they’re new, ease them in gradually - let them watch you attend, build up to obs, history taking…

@geeky_gillon @NatashaMDay @NJL_Blancq @Reb_eccai @ReevePara I signed up for an NHS service finder account with a trust email… got an email from the MIDOS team saying something along the lines of “we have midos, don’t use service finder”… not sure why the trust doesn’t want us using it if MIDOS isn’t appropriately updated/used!
English

@NatashaMDay @NJL_Blancq @Reb_eccai @ReevePara And why am I still using bloody MiDOS when this exists?
English

@EEAST_OpSupport @HeyTomAbell @EastEnglandAmb @ant_brett Any idea when any of the new designs are making their way to sunny north beds?! :)
English

We're at BLS today for the final fit of a further 40 Renault Master ambulances. 12 of these were introduced q3 2023. Staff gave 26 feedback points, of which 25 have been successfully accommodated 🥳 @HeyTomAbell @EastEnglandAmb @ant_brett #Bclass #Stryker #NewVehicles

👏pre-alerts👏are👏for👏a👏reason👏
I’ve seen a huge increase recently of tutting followed by “go to RAT/AHO” then on them seeing the patient or handing over, “why aren’t you in Resus?”, or varying opinions between trusts leading to conflict (classically NEWS7 getting prealert)

I really shouldn’t be afraid of being judged by received ED staff when I bring in an unwell paediatric patient but yet here I am, frequently feeling nervous and ashamed for being “over”-cautious. I’m on my own in the back with a poorly kid & worried parent & doing my best. 😭
English

@geeky_gillon @NJL_Blancq @MuffinAnderson Completely appreciate that - I’ve heard some horror stories of people fighting for placement hours etc… I’m in a very very lucky position with my station being a small satellite (we get left alone), a permanent crewmate who is brilliant and supportive management
English

@Josh_R137 @NJL_Blancq @MuffinAnderson My apprentice para course (about 5yrs ago) was very different. We had to fight to get enough placement hours, mentors were in short supply & you were lucky to have any stability. Priority was bums on seats, especially once you were badged as an EMT
English

@NJL_Blancq @MuffinAnderson I do appreciate though, I’m in a very privileged position - in a well staffed area where we rarely have to be split… and have an awesome mentor who takes every single opportunity he can to mentor me and allow me to develop as a clinician… I know this isn’t the case for all!
English

@NJL_Blancq @MuffinAnderson Whilst I can see where you’re coming from, I’d argue against this. As an apprentice paramedic, 90% of my shifts are with my mentor. The other 10% is with AEMT/ECA, allowing me to cement decision making skills and build confidence - so it’s not completely meaningless :)
English

@NJL_Blancq @MuffinAnderson So I did ECA and am currently a tech… having a mentor when I was an apprentice tech and then as an EMT, I didn’t have a formal mentor - but my crewmate is now my mentor if that makes sense 😂
English

@geeky_gillon @DrLindaDykes Many of us rural Bedfordshire crews are scared of big, scary Luton… that drive up the A6 gives us palpitations 😂
English

@DrLindaDykes Very many of my Luton colleagues are scared of proper darkness and horrible creepy countryside sounds - like owls.
English

I am disturbed that - at time I type this - half of Jess’s respondents do not know the different between a barn door and a tombstone 😂😂 we really must rotate all HCPs through rural areas & churchyards!
Jess Sparrow 🐥@JessicaSpara
Why are “barn door” myocardial infarctions called barn doors?
