@Joshmcbroom I lived in Illinois foe 22 years. Not many people in govt there that aren't crazy liberals.

Last night, while driving south on Washington through downtown, my family witnessed the “teen takeover” forming near Rosebud that many of you have heard about. I know there’s a video circulating. Seeing it firsthand was unsettling. A squad car was already on site as the crowd began to grow.
We’re still waiting on a full report, but I understand arrests were made related to fights, and several trespassing citations were issued.
This problem isn’t unique to Naperville, but it is a real issue that impacts our businesses, residents, and overall sense of safety downtown. Our police department is working proactively to stay ahead of and deter this behavior, and I appreciate their efforts.
It’s also worth noting that under the Illinois SAFE-T Act, trespassing is generally a non-detainable offense. That limits a tool officers previously had to immediately address situations like this. While this isn’t something I can change at the city level, it does affect how these incidents can be handled in real time and last night is a clear example of that.

@hatm4n You are this scared huh? What a weak little child you are.
English

@Joshmcbroom “Let me see your real name and face so I can dox you and if not I win”
Average boomer
English

@hatm4n Being called spineless from anon internet profile is too rich. It’s literally the weakest thing you could do.
English

@Joshmcbroom @FrankHimel Meanwhile if one police officer swung a club and smashed one of these obnoxious teens across the mouth, which was normal in the last century, it would be national news and in hundreds of cell phone videos. There’s your problem. Your police can’t do their job.
English

@DMirr769 @BenDover0486 Oh, another weak soy boy anon internet cry baby. Cool.
English

@BenDover0486 You would never say this to my face and that’s how I know you are a coward. Keep whining on the internet under a weak anon profile. See how much change that creates, kid.
English

@Joshmcbroom Ok, fake tough guy politician. Politicians like you allowed Illinois to become what it has. Scared, spineless afraid to be called racist fools! Fuck off outa here!
English

@Really5dog You don’t know anything about me, aren’t going to look into me at all, but you are going to make some assumptions anyway. Cool.
English

@Joshmcbroom Leaders let it get to this point because they were terrified of being called a racist. I don't know you or your policies but I would guess you are among them.
English

@BenDover0486 Ok, tough guy on the internet.
English

@fuentesnation You are a coward, anon troll.
English

@Joshmcbroom And you won’t do shit about it… does your wife ever get upset her husband has a vagina?
English

@FrankHimel No, they cannot. A citation must be issued first, then if there is non compliance or escalation detention can happen. Agree that prior safe t act immediate detention would be rare for trespassing, but in a situation like this, it would be a nice tool to still have
English

@Joshmcbroom Police can arrest people for trespassing, Josh, still. While I am an opponent of the safe t act and our new bail system, no one was ever held without bail on a trespassing charge, not before the safe t act and not after the safe t act

@Cosenza85532641 The only answers come at the ballot box, with an informed and an engaged electorate. We are very much lacking in this area. Police don’t allow these things to happen, people vote for them to happen.
English

@Joshmcbroom This did nothing to address concerns over what happened. Come back when you have real answers.

BREAKING: The US is preparing for a potential ground invasion into Iran that would last for up to 2 months, per the Washington Post.
Details include:
1. Thousands of American soldiers are arriving in the Middle East for what could become a "dangerous new phase" of the war
2. Any invasion would involve raids by a mixture of Special Operations forces and conventional infantry troops, US officials said
3. President Trump has wavered between declaring that the war is winding down and threatening to amplify it
4. Discussions over the past month have touched upon the possible seizure of Kharg Island and raids into other coastal areas near the Strait of Hormuz
The Iran War appears to be entering a new era.

Tonight we vote on the 2026 City of Naperville budget. I intend to support this budget, though not without significant reservations.
I continue to have confidence in our professional staff. They manage a well-run local government and help keep Naperville on solid footing. My concerns are not with staff, they have done their job. My concerns are with the direction some members of this council are giving them.
This year, the council majority has expressed support for raising the SECA funding cap. To me, that signals a willingness to loosen oversight on how our Food and Beverage tax dollars are spent. At the same time, there has been zero scrutiny over General Fund operations. In fact, during our third and final budget workshop, in a surpise move the majority directed staff to add $1 million in new General Fund spending, without any discussion of tradeoffs, or offsetting cuts. That is not responsible budgeting.
I am one vote, and I don’t cast symbolic protest votes. When a budget is fundamentally sound, when staff has done the hard work, and when the city can continue operating, I will support it.
But I’ll be candid: some of the guidance being given to staff is fiscally irresponsible. We are entering a period of real financial pressure, rising personnel costs driven by inflation, and the very real possibility of significant unfunded state mandates. The days of pandemic-era funny money sloshing around are gone. The hangover is here, and it is expensive. Pretending otherwise doesn’t serve our residents.
Naperville has earned its reputation for fiscal discipline over decades. It takes only a few years of careless decision making to undermine that. I will continue to push for disciplined budgeting, scrutiny of spending, and serious long-term planning because tax payers deserve nothing less.
Lastly- throw back to my 2024 article in the Sun. Yes, DEI is still an “essential city service” funded by your property taxes. But don’t worry, it’s “just a cup of coffee” 😉

“It’s just a cup of coffee”
I’ve been in and around local government long enough to have heard this phrase used ad nauseam by politicians to justify increasing your taxes
It’s also the reason why smaller budget items can’t ever be cut out. Wouldn’t even save the tax payer a cup of coffee….
Before you know it your local government is selling you so much coffee it rivals a 7 brew drive-thru.
Heads up, at tomorrow night’s meeting there will be an attempt by some on council to sell you another cup of joe. And if you don’t want to buy it….. you will be anti public safety….
Do you see how this works?

Had an amazing time at the Naperville Responds for Veterans Gala. There are many great veteran charities out there, but what we really like about NRFV is how it directly helps local veterans, and you can clearly see the impact. Proud to support those who’ve served our community and our country. 🇺🇸
Also proud of our son Jackson who volunteered his time at the event 👊
