Another sunny day in Paris…

Strange bunch? You mean, as polls consistently suggest, the majority of the population? I don’t necessarily advocate for strict historicism, but decorative ornament, symmetry, fractals and natural materials play an essential psychological role in architecture. Modernism rejected these things in favour of cold geometrical abstractions and grids, it’s an ideologically-driven approach to architecture which I hate entirely.

@Joshr331 Are you part of that strange bunch who want everything built in a fiddly neo-historic style with cornices, scrolls etc.?

I am sincerely pleased that over the last 20 years London has built thousands of new homes along the Thames at Nine Elms and Vauxhall. I just wish we had built them in a way that edifies the city and its inhabitants rather than scarring and marring it.

@Joshr331 It's the financial system that's producing the globally anonymous high glass buildings, not architects. Get the causes right!

@othlooney It feels no unsafer than London or any other big European city. Some parts of the city feel more dodgy (the banlieues famously) but central Paris always feels very safe to me!
