No need to make excuses for Waltz for "just making a joke", he would never punch down on any other department like that. No need to make excuses for del Toro either, he has shared his "I don't want digital, I want old-fashioned craftmanship" which is equally damaging.

@ABAOProductions Barring that though, I'd probably render out them as separate passes, the room with a holdout of the mirror, and then the interior + mirror (with the exterior room's primary visibility off, but still casting reflections) and comp it all together.

@ABAOProductions I can't give a directly helpful answer, but if Cinema has an equivalent to Maya's light linking, you should be able to have your environment's lights ignore the "interior" geo.

C4D/REDSHIFT | Trying to create a 3D environment inside a picture frame. Using the Redshift render tag to make the "picture" only visible through refractions (so only visible through the glass). But no matter what I do, I am still left with shadows or light residue. Thought?
