Smoking is cool, it has always been cool and will always be cool. You shouldn't smoke because it's absolutely horrible for you. It's why we all quit, but it doesn't change the fact that it's cool. Caveat: It is extremely uncool if you're fat. It just makes you look like an out of control animal with no self control and you look like you're going to drop dead. Gotta pick one poison at the most.

If smoking is cool, I'm cool with being uncool…

@annielcrawford Right. It's not, so instead of teaching kids never to have sex, we teach them the appropriate place. This new technology is available and will become ubiquitous. We either learn to use it well or we become 21st-century Amish, arbitrarily drawing the line at pre-AI technology.

@cirsova You’ve read Bran Mak Morn haven’t you? It’s got some of that same brooding darkness leading to inevitable disaster that Kull does. There’s also a crossover.

My wife was formerly promiscuous. I was a virgin. She was then radically born-again. Committed to church, evangelized constantly, Puritan books in her bedroom, prayer journals, grief over past sexual sin, etc.

@d4doome Old boy’s whole argument is if you drive anywhere that proves it’s bad. Hate to tell him but when I lived in the city and wanted to go to the park I had to drive there.

🚩Red flags in a woman’s apartment: - carpets stained - bathtub dirty -tapestries threadbare - family escutcheon needs polish - peasants tell superstitious tales & avoid the place - servant girls keep going missing -noises in the walls - what is that in the bathtub oh God oh G

Most honest writers are rather workmanlike in their craft. This is the reason expressions like "one percent inspiration, 99 percent perspiration" and "seat of the pants to the seat of the chair" and "stubbornness finishes novels" came about. They also understand that the work itself is helps shape their own soul, which is how that kind of talk develops. Furthermore, they care about the reader on the other side of the relationship, for that is what it is, a handshake, so to speak, of people who may never meet. Building for the sake of more is neither good dominion nor good culture.
Josh Daws@JoshDaws

Anti-AI writers treat their work like a horcrux, as if typing words manually embeds a piece of their soul into the draft, and AI use would corrupt the sacred vessel. This is not theology. It’s not even good metaphysics. It’s magical thinking dressed up as artistic integrity.

@MichaelFKane It’s not an either/or. Humans will use AI to produce human art just as surely as they’ll use it to produce slop. Judge the work not the process.

R.L. Stine wrote 160 Goosebumps books. At the height of their popularity in 1993 two books were being published a month. Stine denies using ghostwriters but Scholastic admits that he employed them to write the bulk of the series. No kid who reads them cares.

@plainrunner2 I see many writers crying about how hard it is to persevere, control their characters, experience emotional drain and blocks. And I think to myself, why subject myself to that? As a project manager who writes that’s a sign of poor planning and execution. AI helps with all that.

@themarinadove She's actually an intelligent and apparently rare, genuinely good person who was instrumental in recording the story and preserving the future of mankind (the magical twins). Compared with her, the Baron and the Emperor are midwits.

Legitimate question: how do you use AI in your creative workflow that doesn't just delegate your brainstorming to a machine? Because for me, the fantasizing about this world of my creation, the people living in it, and the problems that arise is the best part of the writing process. Everything else is just business management.

Every creative person I know that has embraced AI as a tool for their art has produced more content this month than all of last year. A true creative individual sees AI and feels completely empowered. They feel like the entire world has opened up to them. But a lot of self professed creative people, who have been grifting as creatives for decades, are about to be exposed as frauds who and pretenders who only know how to work within the politics of the current system. They will sit down before the greatest tool for creativity the world has ever known and not have a single idea how to use it or what story to tell. Pay attention to what is happening and who rejects the gift, and who embraces it.
