Today’s (unanimous) vote by @atlcouncil is largest-ever allocation ($11.6 million) for affordable housing out of City’s general fund budget.
Comes on heels of last year’s second-largest allocation ($8m).
Unsurprising they’re also @andreforatlanta’s first two budgets as mayor.

I'm at the 41st floor of downtown's 2 Peachtree tower for the inaugural meeting of the Atlanta Urban Development Corporation.
The city wants to retrofit this building with hundreds of apartments, many of them affordable. Imagine affordable housing with this kinda view!

The public land portfolio includes residential infill lots, large undeveloped tracts, and urban fire stations that should be redeveloped to include housing above them. Our goal is to build housing on all of them.

Megaprojects are so risky, slow, and limited in location (mostly on high pollution arterials). I’d love to see this UDC knock out a ton of 2-10 plexes and ADUs in historic neighborhoods like my own Ormewood Park. We have SO MUCH ROOM.

@ChrisTest82 @thomaswheatley @axios We’ve worked closely with the neighborhood on the plan over the last year. Legislation to formally adopt the neighborhood plan was recently introduced by @JasonHWinston and it will go before the NPU and City Council for approval in the few weeks.
