+ a dozen other sparks that didn't (fully) materialize. It's been the most fun year creating since my early days of discovering web dev almost 2 decades ago. Getting to relearn what it means to build software in this day and age is an incredibly profound opportunity. Isn't it that curiousity that got us into programming in the first place? So here's to keep vibing and crafting in 2026! 🥂

Nearly every ambitious person I know who has dived into AI is working harder than ever, and longer hours than ever. Fascinating dynamic tbh. I have NEVER worked this hard, nor had this much fun with work.

"I also get some programmers are eager to tune it out. The hype drones on, the fantastical claims are still far off, and there's uncertainty where this leaves the profession. But that's not reason to miss out on this incredible moment in human history!" world.hey.com/dhh/promoting-…

And my favourite: PopInHQ.com → I completely started from scratch and rebuilt the Virtual Office I spent months working on back in 2020 (x.com/JoshuaJansen/s…). The new version quickly became a daily hangout at @firmhouse, instantly bringing serendipidy and nostalgic vibes.

The past months, I've been working on quite an ambitious project: a new type of Virtual Office 🏢 There are great solutions out there today, but I think there is room for something that fits better in our remote-first world. Here's my take on what that would look like:

Had a lot of fun vibing a little side-project over the holidays: a @Rails log scanner/parser → RailsLogs.app Now exploring baking in a little MCP server so agents can start pulling in relevant log context when building/debugging.

Agency > Intelligence I had this intuitively wrong for decades, I think due to a pervasive cultural veneration of intelligence, various entertainment/media, obsession with IQ etc. Agency is significantly more powerful and significantly more scarce. Are you hiring for agency? Are we educating for agency? Are you acting as if you had 10X agency? Grok explanation is ~close: “Agency, as a personality trait, refers to an individual's capacity to take initiative, make decisions, and exert control over their actions and environment. It’s about being proactive rather than reactive—someone with high agency doesn’t just let life happen to them; they shape it. Think of it as a blend of self-efficacy, determination, and a sense of ownership over one’s path. People with strong agency tend to set goals and pursue them with confidence, even in the face of obstacles. They’re the type to say, “I’ll figure it out,” and then actually do it. On the flip side, someone low in agency might feel more like a passenger in their own life, waiting for external forces—like luck, other people, or circumstances—to dictate what happens next. It’s not quite the same as assertiveness or ambition, though it can overlap. Agency is quieter, more internal—it’s the belief that you *can* act, paired with the will to follow through. Psychologists often tie it to concepts like locus of control: high-agency folks lean toward an internal locus, feeling they steer their fate, while low-agency folks might lean external, seeing life as something that happens *to* them.”

Intelligence is on tap now so agency is even more important
