I co-founded defense tech company @BlueWaterShips as a @Harvard grad student - here are some misconceptions + why the below matters: - Harvard's @Kennedy_School @BelferCenter host the most stacked ever lineup of generals, heads-of-government, and senior defense acquisition professionals - this place is the PERFECT place for early customer discovery for an incubating defense founder. - Despite that, the faculty at HKS (the JKF school of government) could not give a crap about helping a student build a defense company. Most leaders who have reached the apex of careers in the public sector (cabinet secretaries, ambassadors, etc) simply do not understand that the private sector is now critical to our national security. Some understand this, but think working in the private sector is helping a company profit (rather than help a mission).* - Those who do believe --> they don't get how important access to the customer org chart matters for an early defense tech company. - This fact is why the business school exists, why Harvard and MIT have entrepreneurship programs, incubators, accelerators, and coursework. Bureaucrats don't understand founders (in some ways they're cultural opposites). - BUT - when I was on the entrepreneurship side at @EshipMIT @MIT they had no clue how to help a kid trying B2G. They only understand B2B + B2C and just lump B2G into B2B. - News flash - the government is a uniquely jacked up customer. - Nick and Ryan got to campus as I was leaving, and started Q-Lab to solve this problem: universities that have the following ingredients MUST have a way to synthesize these strengths into defense tech company building programs: - Strong access to government & policy leaders - Hand-on entrepreneurship program - Legit engineering program - Access to VC and founder talent Harvard and MIT alone, much less together, have all 4. Q-Lab and defense tech institutions must keep growing on top American university campuses. Programs like Q-Lab will help transitioning veterans find private sector careers in national security, will connect killer engineering talent to government need, and will give dynamic budding founders the ecosystem in which to build. This ecosystem is nascent. We must grow it. Harvard has taken a lot of flak from the admin, but Q-Lab is a great step toward helping build for our country. *Ash Carter got it, but tragically died of a heart attack

Mankind has always been at the mercy of the weather. No longer. Rainmaker is the first company in history to routinely, unambiguously, modify the weather. Last quarter, we produced >143MM gallons of unambiguously man-made precipitation. Here’s how we do it 🧵

c. 100 baptisms in St Dominic’s in San Francisco tonight The most in the parish’s 150 year history Up 35% on last year even (which was also a record) The faith is alive here in San Francisco and if history is anything to go by, what happens in SF, follows on to the rest of the country

Totally amazed by the mass I attended this morning at St. Joseph’s in Greenwich Village A queue out the door. Standing room only + full of young people I’ve never seen a mass with this many young people. Average age was probably mid-to-late 20s Fr Jonah + the team are crushing it. The revival of Catholicism is very real

“If you want American strength, you need to have American manufacturing.” Poseidon is glad to be building in Maine to deliver critical capabilities to the delivering important capabilities to the warfighter with urgency. We are excited to partner with the Roux Institute’s National Security Innovation Hub to help us expand our footprint in Maine’s historic manufacturing ecosystem.
