I love this scene BUT what bothers me is the Major Hellstrom character's decision to act. I get maybe he didn't want to start a panicked shooting, thus kept it quite at the table with his gun hidden, but why do this?
No one else knew he noticed the mistake. Hicox did not know he'd revealed himself. All Hellstrom had to do was keep playing along, and get up, and quietly move over to the other table to let them know what was going on. He did not know Hicox had a gun on him, either way, it wouldn't matter. He's got all the power in the situation before he announced he knew they were the enemy.
I'd love for Tarantino to speak on this if anyone knows of one. Is there something on the DVD commentary track (i miss those).
