@playb0y4L The only justification for this is if they expand the map over time. Don’t forget the original GTA 6 was titled (project americas). Since we’re starting in a corner of America, it’s possible they add more locations over time, both new ones and old maps resmastered/redesigned.

The problem with GTA 6 having a land border is that the idea falls apart once you consider how the map would actually connect. If the northern edge is land instead of ocean, that land would realistically need to continue endlessly east and west. Otherwise the world feels artificial. Flying a plane from the southern part westward over the ocean would eventually approach the northwest edge. What would be there? A land border can’t suddenly stop without looking awkward. Extending it forever creates a massive invisible wall of mountains, forests, or countryside stretching endlessly across the horizon to hide the map’s edge. Even without crossing it, seeing this endless backdrop would hurt immersion. It worked in RDR2 because of its rural frontier setting with no planes, so players lacked a wide aerial view. GTA is different: aircraft and total freedom make the illusion much harder to maintain. This is the core issue with peninsulas in open-world games. A land border must logically continue infinitely in both directions to feel believable, which creates visual problems. Rockstar prioritizes freedom and immersion in GTA, so obvious boundaries would stand out more than ever. That’s why islands work so well. The ocean naturally closes off the map on every side. Players accept it instantly, with no awkward fake terrain stretching into the distance, and Rockstar avoids the immersion problems of land borders entirely.
