It was hard to breathe the first half of last year. I’ve never had a lung crisis like it, even for all the years of living with asthma, and hope never to have one quite like it again. I’m grateful for good doctors and for steady recovery since the late summer onwards. This fall and winter, by grace and with good friends and editors, a long-term project got done. After the illness and through the work, I made a change. Prior to this I was a fairly reliable correspondent when things appeared in my social media inboxes but around October I stopped opening most direct messages. Going forward this is a permanent change. Unless I know you in the walking around world, social media direct messages are not a reliable way to reach me. I (usually) love the interactions but I just cannot keep up with them. As I am keenly interested in the thoughts and responses of my readers, I see almost every *comment* posted to the meditations and little essays I share on social media platforms. If you don’t have my cell or email, and really need to reach me, posting a comment is probably the best way to do so going forward. I’ve got BIG NEWS to share next week. I’m excited. I hope you will share my joy. By the way, this is my grand boy, Finnegan, and he’s everything you see here and more. Showers of blessings on you. Kenneth+

My god. The Hellebuyck performance. The Boldy/Hughes goals. The penalty kills. The Gaudreau family in attendance with his jersey being paraded around the ice at the end. The first Gold since Miracle, on the anniversary of that game. This game had it all. Unbelievable.

If Britain can arrest Prince Andrew because of Jeffrey Epstein, if Norway can prosecute a former prime minister, how is it that the US can't hold anyone accountable -- indeed, can't even investigate Trump allegations or release names of those who sent damning emails to Epstein?

Whenever Robert traveled any distance—perhaps driving to an appointment or an airport or flying to another city—when he reached his destination, he would text me a single word: Safe. He wanted to let me know that he had arrived. I'm writing to let you know that Robert is “safe.” My “DH” (dear husband) has arrived at his final destination. He is safely Home. Over the last few days, several close friends and family members have kept vigil with me around Robert’s bed, singing hymns, praying, waiting, weeping . . . and worshiping. His children and grandchildren (who we were able to spend time with less than a month ago) said good-bye through FaceTime. Last night, one of Robert’s brothers and his wife spent the night with me in the hospital room. Robert’s breathing had been slowing down, with longer pauses between each one. Just before 5:00 this morning, I was prompted to play a beautiful song called “Come to Jesus.” The last stanza says: And with your final heartbeat, kiss the world goodbye Then go in peace, and laugh on Glory's side. And fly to Jesus, fly to Jesus Fly to Jesus and live. On the phrase, “with your final heartbeat,” Robert took a gasping breath. We watched intently, waiting to see if he would take another one. It was to be his last. At the end of the chorus, Robert’s brother said softly, with wonder and awe: “He just flew to Jesus!” It was a sacred, glorious moment. An incredible gift from the Lord. We left Robert’s tired, worn-out body in the hospital room. Soon it will be laid into the ground. But Robert has never been more alive. This faithful, courageous, precious man of God has entered his eternal rest and reward—not because of anything he did to deserve it, but because of the magnificent, redeeming grace and love of Christ. Many tears have been shed in these days. And there will be many more to come. Robert loved me in a way I had never before imagined possible. The Lord gave us an amazing ten years together (122 months next week!), to joyfully love and serve Him, each other, and others. Robert has been an exquisite treasure to me. It feels surreal to think of him being gone. But I know that one day, in the resurrection, Robert’s body will be transformed “into the likeness of [Christ’s] glorious body” (Phil 3:21). No more sickness, sadness, suffering, or sorrow. Steve Green’s “Safely Home” has been ministering grace to my heart this morning. I hope you’ll take time to listen to it and to give thanks with me for God’s mercy in taking Robert to live in the house of the Lord forever. “Today there's sorrow. But joy tomorrow. Safely home.”

Precious ones, This is not a report I had hoped to be sending. But the Lord is making His will known to us and we are saying, "Yes, Lord. We surrender to Your plan, knowing that You are good and You can be trusted to write our story." Nearly three years ago, Robert released a book called "Finish Line." The subtitle is: "Dispelling fear, finding peace, and preparing for the end of your life." Robert believes and has beautifully lived the message of that book. Now my DH (dear husband) has run his race and is approaching the finish line. Since my last update, we have had discussions with members of Robert’s family and his dedicated medical team. After much prayer and with trust in God’s sovereignty, we have decided to transition to comfort-focused care for Robert. The loving nurses and doctors here are doing all they can to help give him a pain-free, anxiety-free death. Scripture tells us that "all [our days] were written in [His] book and planned before a single one of them began" (Psalm 139:16). Only the Lord knows exactly when He will take His servant Home. But we anticipate that within the next few days, Robert will be with Jesus. He has told me many times that "Bobbie [his late wife] showed us how to die, and I am not afraid." We are grateful to be surrounded by people he loves and who love him dearly. Robert is not at all responsive, though the doctors have told us it is possible he can hear the songs, prayers, Scripture, and sweet conversations taking place in this room. (This has been a holy place, with many wonderful gospel opportunities throughout these days.) This afternoon I was on a zoom call with Robert's siblings, daughters, and grandchildren. In the midst of the deep sorrow we are all experiencing, we worshiped the Lord for His faithfulness, kindness, and mercy to us and for the privilege of knowing and loving Robert. This morning, a friend sent me these words spoken by a man in the grip of intense suffering: “Can the dead live again? If so, this would give me hope through all my years of struggle, and I would eagerly await the release of death" (Job 14:14). God's Word assures us that those who die in Christ will indeed "live again." That conviction gives us hope through our years of struggling on this earth. It has given Robert and me great hope in our own journeys. If Robert could speak, I believe he would want us to know that he is eagerly awaiting the release that will come to him when he takes his last breath on earth and enters into his eternal rest and reward. Thank you for your love and prayers for me and for Robert's family and friends over these next hours, as we release Robert to the faithful, loving hands of our great Savior. You mean more to us than you can know. Heaven rules. Jesus is near to the brokenhearted. With deep love, gratitude, and hope through Christ who is redeeming and making all things new, Nancy

“The LORD God formed the man out of the dust from the ground and breathed the breath of life into his nostrils, and the man became a living being.” (Gen 2:7) Oh Lord, You formed my precious husband’s body. Please breathe Your breath into him and sustain his life, for your glory. 1/1/26

Early each morning since we were married ten years ago, my precious husband has texted me a few verses from his time in the Word. Then he tweets one of those verses. Last Tuesday, he posted this tweet. The next morning he was admitted to the hospital with double pneumonia. Sunday he was placed on a ventilator. Tonight we continue to wait to see what the Lord has planned for him and for us. I can’t think of a better verse to take into the New Year. Thank you, my beloved. The Lord is our Helper. We are truly blessed. 💖
