“The International Energy Agency chief has criticised Europe for falling behind China and the US after making “two historic monumental mistakes” in energy policy, by relying on Russian gas and turning away from nuclear power.” ft.com/content/5009e3… via @ft

The global nuclear comeback is real, even in Japan, where the accident at Fukushima Daiichi still looms large in the public’s consciousness. For proof of that comeback, we went to Canada, where a tall, Toronto-based emergency room doctor named Chris Keefer ignited a groundswell of support to expand and refurbish Ontario’s fleet of nuclear reactors. To produce one wind turbine requires 900 tons of steel, 2500 tons of concrete and 45 tons of non-renewable plastic, which then have to be transported long distances, all of which requires fuel. None of the things that go in a wind turbine are renewable, they're eventually going to wear out. In Washington State, residents pay about 11 cents per kilowatt-hour for electricity. In Oregon, they pay 13 cents. But in California; they pay almost 30 cents! Find out why in @JuiceForAll:

Enron Corporation may have declared bankruptcy in 2001, but the company’s effect on America’s electric grid can still be seen today in states like California and Texas, where power prices are soaring and reliability is declining. The push to treat electricity as a commodity instead of a service is particularly punishing in California, where electricity prices are increasing three times faster than in the rest of the U.S. If homeownership is the cornerstone of America's middle class, particularly in America, then the lack of homeownership participation has been exacerbated by California's housing, energy and environmental policies. #electricgrid #electric #california #texas #alternativeenergy #greenenergy For more check out this clip from Juice The Series: youtu.be/kM9wKutXoog?si…

Episode 4 covers Fukushima, as well as several people that experienced the event first hand. I’d recommend watching it before passing judgement. In terms of deaths, only two people died at the Fukushima plant, and it wasn’t due to radiation exposure - they drowned. People tend to forget over 20k tied as a result of a tsunami.

@Lurchgs @JuiceForAll 46 people died because of Chernobyl. Were they not worth a mention? Only a bloodless, soulless freak of nature would say the victims of Three Mile and Fukushima weren't worth a mention. You must be either a Republican or a toady to a nuclear industry or both. You disgust me.

Nuclear reactors aren’t just symbols of progress, they are our “industrial cathedrals.” Building more reactors won’t be cheap, quick, or easy. The challenge is enormous. So is the opportunity.

Check out this clip from Juice The Series. In February 2021, millions of Texans lost power, and the state’s grid came within four or five minutes of a total failure that would have resulted in tens of thousands of deaths. It’s hard to overstate the importance –– and complexity –– of our electric grid. But how did our most important energy network get weakened? And what can we do to fix it? #electricity #electricgrid #alternativeenergy #greenenergy #nuclear #greenenergy youtu.be/5s71qcz3D-Y?si…

California has the highest electricity rates in the country coupled w/frequent blackouts. So why are the largest environmental groups advocating to shutter existing nuclear in the state? Are they going for the high prices/more blackouts/more fossil fuels trifecta?
Madi Hilly@MadiHilly

Many of the largest, wealthiest “environmental” groups care more about closing nuclear plants than they do about reducing emissions. They scream “climate crisis!” as they petition against carbon-free power plants.
