Whenever I see Plummer I'm reminded that when he was in a play in the 50's, he got so sick he assumed he had syphilis and ended up in hospital...his understudy, William Shatner, had to go on in his place.
He did not have syphilis.

@BaronDestructo @odhurt Well, according to his wiki he ended up with a dix that could explain things.
But for me, having read CP's thoughts, he sounded like a narcissist who loved being the centre of attention, believed he was the smartest guy in the room and haughty.
CP had balls in going after him!

@Jules33355 @odhurt Ellison could be, by many accounts, incredibly unpleasant to work with. He was also incredibly arrogant. I recall reading a quote from him about how he broke into Hollywood but acting like king shit and eventually making this attitude a self-fulfilling prophecy.

@sinderinister I go from Daw to Corgi to Panther...and then back again😂.
The ironic/irritating thing is my friend actually RAN an SF bookshop in the early 90s, but I wasn't interested in the slightest🤦🏻♀️. All those books I coulda got then...

@BaronDestructo But, then we all have feet of clay...
he wrote some amazing stuff and id argue he came up with the most poetic, lyrical titles in all of science fiction.
English

@BaronDestructo It's a long read. As a trekkie and B5 fan, it made me re-evaluate Ellison and his claims of always being hard done by. I understood why his avatar was bumped off in the crime/SF parody written abt cons in the 80s by Sharyn McCrumb.

@BaronDestructo From the point that Priest was in the UK and in those days with the Ocean between them it seems Ellison couldn't really apply his normal levers to shut CP up. Ellison tried to flatter CP into sending him a story, which he did, but it was the same flattery he used on others.
English

@BaronDestructo @odhurt I recently read Christopher Priest's take down of Harlan Ellison over 'The Last Dangerous Visions'. Quite the intro to Priest's writings! It rather removed the hero worship I had had for Ellison, which I suppose is rather on point for the New Wave writing that Ellison heralded in

One week with Bumpy! Like any baby, he sleeps deeply and often – especially snuggled up to his Keeper, with a tummy full of milk.
Bumpy was rescued just last weekend, after the Kenya Wildlife Service received reports of a deceased female hippo with an orphan left behind. She appears to have died in a territorial fight, likely defending her baby’s life. Bumpy had stayed huddled beside his mother’s body for at least a day.
Now, Bumpy has a family with us and a wild future ahead. He’ll never be alone again – Keepers like Joseph, pictured here, are with him around the clock, loving him and attending to his every need. As you can see, he is lapping it up!
