Mom to rescue kitty Gracie and Daisy the beagle. Our beloved Trooper and our ferrets have sadly left us. All flowers/butterflies are from our garden.

@dianesteeler We have 3 set apart. They don’t like to share lol
English

@dianesteeler We get Monarch butterflies too because we always plant lots of milkweed and tests have shown they definitely know where the food sources are and pass along a genetic memory to the next generation. It’s so wonderful to see.
English

@dianesteeler Haven’t seen those yet here. And hopefully soon we’ll be seeing hummingbirds. We always plant lots of things for the pollinators.
English

@dianesteeler Normally they live father out in the country but we’ve been feeding them for years and they seem to remember.
English

@dianesteeler Ours are here too! We put out mealworms just for them.😀

This is how kids go to school in eastern Ukraine: underground. I visited a school in Kharkiv that has turned their basement into classrooms, as missiles & drones hit without warning. @AllHandsHearts will help Kharkiv with supplies & solar so kids can still learn during blackouts.

@HumbugAndToby Oh poor Momma G! It is nasty but glad you get extra treats. 😀

Every phone call I've taken this week has broken my heart a little bit more.
So much unnecessary suffering.
Please spread this information, as far and wide as you can.
You may save a life.
🙏
A hedgehog *out in the open* in the day is in serious trouble and needs urgent help.
Always.
No exceptions.
Any size.
Any time.
Hedgehogs are nocturnal prey animals, they have no defences in the daytime, it's deadly dangerous for them.
They are designed to hunt at night, to navigate and catch insects in the dark, occupying a specific ecological niche.
They are not adapted to withstand high temperatures, and their shape means they rapidly dehydrate during daylight hours.
They are nocturnal animals.
So they don't come out in the day simply because they're hungry, or lost, or disturbed, or to move nests, or are pregnant, or for any other trivial reason.
They come out in the day because it's warmer than the night and they are feeling cold.
Deadly cold.
They're feeling cold because they're so sick they're starting to die, and hypothermia is a stage of dying. Blood has been redirected to the vital organs, keeping them alive as long as possible, leaving the limbs feeling cold.
If you see a hedgehog like this, out in the open, in the day time, no matter how 'well' he looks, it is an emergency.
Every minute counts.
DO NOT put them in a box and keep them, feeding them, not calling a rescue for advice for 3 days until their agony and infection is too much for them to bear and they stop moving.
DO NOT feed them then move them under a bush because you think they shouldn't be in the sun, leaving them, utterly defenceless, to be predated alive there.
DO NOT take them to a vet, none of whom are trained in wildlife and will simply put to sleep even viable wild animals.
Please take them to a rescue (never a vet) URGENTLY.
Just Google 'hedgehog rescue near me' to find a list.

Hopefully you will never need us, but if you do, please rest assured that we will do everything we can to make sure your pet goes to a home that matches their needs.
This was the case this week with Rada.
Heartbreakingly her previous owner who loved her very very much is now receiving end of life care but wanted to ensure that Rada was safe and rehomed so she has peace of mind in those final days.
Our team took the initial call from Radas owner many weeks ago, but placed the rehoming on hold until her owner decided she needed our help.
That call came back in last week and we managed to find Paul and his wife in Kilwinning.
With the help of our home checker in Kilwinning a home check was done as a priority and all details passed to Rada’s owner.
Rada had sadly went into kennels by this point as her owner was moved into hospital.
The lovely staff at Brumley Brae Kennels in Elgin made sure that Rada was safe and looked after and we kept in touch with them throughout the process to make it as smooth as possible for Rada.
Once the home check was accepted, we then arranged the transport, from Elgin to Kilwinning.
Our Dundee volunteer set off on Monday morning at 7.30am destined for Elgin, arriving just after 10am and picking up Rada.
From there she was transported via a wet and windy A9 to Perth to our Glasgow volunteer Margaret who then took Rada to Kilwinning.
It must have been such a long day for this lovely girl, but she got there.
Our transporters reported how she was such a great passenger, only getting up to look out the window when the car had stopped, usually at traffic lights or road works.
We’ve since had an update from Paul, Radas new owner who said,
“A note to let you know that Rada is settling-in well and has had a good, quiet night snug in her bed. She is a lovely girl.
A few photos attached (we have not let her off the lead outdoors yet, but that will come within the garden as she settles-in)
A big thank you to you all and her previous owner.
She loves her bed and the glowing embers of the fire at night!
Regards,
Paul & Penny”
We wish Rada all the best in her new home and hope she is happy.
Her previous owner continues to be updated by our team too.
If you need help, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
Although a small team, we are always happy to help as much as we can.
You can email info@help2rehome.com or call our dedicated rehoming team on 0330 133 4594 between 10am and 4pm Monday - Saturday - as we are a small team, if you don’t get an answer , leave a voicemail and we will get back to you.
