Do not tell any future potential employer/recruiter your age. We DO NOT need to know this information! It doesn't matter if you're 12 years old or 212 years old, DO NOT tell me your age.

If you’re not getting inbound messages, your Linkedin profile is too vague. Be specific about your skills, tools, and the work you want. Specific headlines get recruiters to click. Detailed About sections get recruiters to read. Context in the Experience drives engagement.

@KarpiakJobTips Great advice! I say this to people all the time. The number people I engage with that say they won’t apply to a job if it has over 100 applicants baffles me.

Ignore the “X applicants” count on job postings. It doesn’t tell you how many people actually completed the application (or how many were even remotely qualified). If you’re qualified...apply. Don’t self-eliminate.

@howtolandanyjob I did ☹️ and they have to answer a questionnaire that indicates if they are local…and still said yes even though they aren’t. It’s a crazy market out there. I get it though, people need work. I

@Julia_Jasko Well that sucks for you and your client! If that's the case, I hope you specify in the job description that only candidates who are already in the area will be considered. It saves you from having to comb through as many resumes!

When applying to jobs, please pay attention to the job location and whether the job is remote or requires some form of onsite. Today I received 40 back to back applications for an onsite job, and not a single person lived within 100 miles of the location.

@howtolandanyjob Unfortunately we have seen too many people say they will relocate because they need a job, and then at the last minute they back out because they hoped the job will turn remote. So relo isn't possible for this client :(

I REALLY want to help people, but I can't consider remote workers that live states away for a job that is mandatory onsite.

If you’re applying for jobs but haven’t checked your spam folder in weeks…do it now. Recruiter emails, interview invites, and follow-ups can all get filtered without warning.

@randomrecruiter To be fair...a good recruiter does circle back with candidates when the right opportunity comes available :) I do this often.

Remote work promised freedom and work life balance. No commute. More flexibility. Autonomy over your day. And for a while, it delivered. But within the past few years, companies decided to change their tune. Why? Because the long term costs are becoming impossible to ignore. Mentorship, professional development, spontaneous collaboration, and informal on the job training are non existent. It’s a lot harder to do this stuff remote than it is onsite. McKinsey found that younger folks are struggling to build real professional networks. And without those relationships, career growth halts, and succession plans are non existent. This isn’t just a productivity problem, it’s having a negative impact on their culture. Remote work might still be efficient. But many companies believe it’s no longer a viable option. Personally, I love remote roles. Larger talent pool and easier to fill. I’ll never make the money I did back when remote was pretty much the norm. Just calling balls and strikes as I see it from my end. I think we’re closer to full time RTO than we are full time WFH.
