I went to my Grandma’s funeral today. The hardest thing I’ve done is say goodbye to my Glynis Powell in hospital. Feisty, clever, a true believer in a woman’s power. Even if she didn’t realise it, she was my first feminist role model. But she was also just really caring. Love you

The reality is the BBC was and remains the only broadcaster struggling to remain free of any of these influencers. To say it has been “captured” when the bulk of the media have been in captivity for years misses the point. The Beeb suffers from a) being so transparent and an “easy target” and b) Former chiefs who happily conspire with enemies to harm it. Note Tim Davie has pledged not to do this.
Roger Mosey@rogermosey

This is a vital piece by @RobBurl about the capture of the BBC by lobbyists, and how the corporation had major failures of impartiality. Great contributions from Fran Unsworth & Gavin Allen, and also noting the role of @StephenNolan in the fightback. (£) unherd.com/2026/05/inside…

The article in Unherd is all very well, but somebody needs to point out that Unherd is owned by the same guy who owns @GBNews and the writer has a slot on Lachlan Murdoch’s Times Radio. Frankly, the BBC needs to get better at pointing these things out. This is not to say there is not merit in the piece nor is it to question Rob’s journalism, especially on the tortured trans issue which caused pain to many media orgs as they learned how to navigate it with compassion, a characteristic lacking almost everywhere else.

Extraordinary long read at @UnHerd today.

This women's Rome final between Gauff and Svitolina is FANTASTIC! Such a high level of tennis from both women. It's a shame to again see the stands so empty. These talented athletes deserve much better. 🤷💕 #IBI26 #ItalianOpen

whenever you tell someone at a party you’re a journalist and they clamor to clarify that they’re “off the record” it’s like. you just told me a story about your cat throwing up after eating funfetti cake batter. should we call the new york times? should we invite bella hadid ?

Loving Jamie Murray on the tennis commentary. Adds great context and expert knowledge in a light fashion with also a bit of humour sprinkled in.

Personal View: BBC journalism is disgracefully maligned by my old newspaper world, by Trump and commercially-focussed idealogues, yet here at home I just watched @BowenBBC on Iran, followed by @FrankRGardner, followed by the wonderful @VitalyBBC from Kyiv…. I was in US last week… let me tell you NO news organisation is as good as this, no journalists as clear and free, the new DG needs to fill the newsroom with confidence and….defiance…. it is time to wave the BBC flag.

Hi @GeauxGabrielle - I lead engineering for @GoogleWorkspace , which includes Docs, (also previously worked in Google DeepMind) and can assure you this claim about Docs is 100% untrue. We do not use your personal content in Google Docs to train our Gemini models. This is true whether you use Gemini features in Docs or not.

Enjoying the commentary of @Liambroady , just like his brilliant sister, Naomi! It’s not an easy skill. They both talk so well and their love and knowledge of the game lifts the whole thing.

For various boring reasons we have to say that these are Hugh Grant’s views not ours, and that we definitely haven’t printed his post out and put it in a little frame on our desk

Dirty Business on @Channel4. Brilliantly made, devastating. Water must be nationalised now. The owners of the private water companies jailed.

Events have reminded me how proud I am to work for NPR. Huge story struck. Experienced staff reporters from all over the world leaped in to inform the public, without fear, favor, partisanship, or a paywall. If you think it's vital to keep this going, here's a link: npr.org/stations/

Watching BBC 1 and the news this morning. Rachel Burden is a great person to have on this morning. Very used to handling big and breaking news. Calm, knowledgeable and authoritative.
