@3renJ4eger @Heccles94 Don't know about uneducated but the prize for dishonesty and fraudulence in UK politics surely belongs jointly to Johnson and Farage. Polanski is more of a well intentioned idiot, lacking self awareness.

Lemuralia was a solemn festival held on May 9th, 11th & 13th to banish malevolent spirits of the dead from Roman homes. The head of the household would walk barefoot at midnight, chanting, washing hands and throwing black beans over their shoulder to appease the ghostly spirits.

@HistoryRage @militaryhistori Panzer II is such a cute little tank, perfectly formed imo. Also the first model tank I ever made. Matchbox for the win, far superior to Airfix.

@bedlamcitylimit @TheMekon_Venus I think that works well as they are based in very different eras. Strangely I've never seen Series 1. I was too young when it came out, and it seems never to have been repeated as much as the others, or I've just missed it.

@TheMekon_Venus Series 1 & 3 were weirdly written differently from series 2 & 4 How they wrote the characters, the world, the jokes, themes & overall "feel" of the show was different

These words are clearly incitement to racial hatred. Why hasn't Melanie Phillips been arrested and charged?

On 23 June 2026, Britain marks ten years since the Brexit referendum. We were promised £350 million a week for the NHS. We were promised the easiest trade deals in history. We were promised sunlit uplands. Research now shows the economy is 6-8% smaller, business investment fell 18% and 63% of us would vote to rejoin. And you want to vote the man that hurt so many of our pockets and got us here? Vote tactically on the 7th of May. Stop Refrom. We deserve better. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🇬🇧☕️🫖 thedailybritain.co.uk/ten-years-brex…

Morris Dancing at Thaxted, Dunmow, Essex by Walter Hoyle 1964 is our work of the month. This poster commissioned by the Post Office Savings Bank shows the Thaxted Morris Men rounding the top of Watling Street in Thaxted decked out in their famous red and white waistcoats. Founded in 1911, the Thaxted Morris Men were part of the revival of interest in Morris dancing begun by Cecil Sharp and Mary Neal. In 1952 the Squire of Thaxted Morris Men was Alec Butler Hunter, who worked as director and production manager at Warner & Sons textiles of Braintree. He commissioned a new set of waistcoats for the group made from a fabric from Warners, known as "Norwich Weave", The fabric had been designed in 1947 by Marianne Straub as curtain fabric for RMS Caronia, a Cunard White Star Line passenger ship. Alec Hunter gave his own waistcoat to Marianne Straub, and she in turn passed it on to the Fry Art Gallery. It is now on display in our current exhibition Fry's Popular Delights. The Thaxted Morris Men dance in Thaxted every Bank Holiday Monday, and stage a 'Weekend of Dance' over the Whitsun weekend at the end of May. For more details see: thaxtedmorris.org Fry's Popular Delights runs throughout the season in the main gallery and the Bawden room until Sunday 25th October 2026. #essexevents #fryartgallery

@RogersHistory "Back in the day ..." As in late 80s, earliest 90s, my teachers just scheduled revision slots in the normal timetable, were available to help, the rest up to the individual. Don't recall study/revision skills input. I guess it was achieved drip feed or I'm just forgetting.

@philski68 @nvolpewild But they don't mind ants attacking their other legs, bit silly really? Or, if the ants only attack the back legs how stupid are they? I feel one or other of these insects is missing a trick. Just joking, love them all, but am scratching my head a little.

Australia’s newest BUG has just dropped and it’s a SKILLED KILLER that SUCKS ANTS ALIVE! 🤯🐜 Meet the Larrakia’s Feather Leg Assassin that is described from the savannah woodlands of the Top End. ☀️ This genus has an incredibly unique way of finding prey, an organ called a trichome under its body that releases a secretion to lure the interest of ants! Once an ant pushes its way underneath the body of the Assassin Bug to try and figure out the scent - BAM the Assassin shoves its proboscis deep into the back of its neck subdue it and then proceeds to SUCK the ant inside out! Charming! 😱 I have been so excited to share these photos I took in October 2023 when Daniel Bardey and his team from Oxford University were here visiting Darwin to find any potential new Ptilocnemus species. 🔍 The following day that he found the first specimens in Charles Darwin National Park, I found this beauty in the rocky woodlands near Noonamah - it was fate! Such an incredible new species to the super biodiverse humid woodlands of the Top End! 🤩🍂

A single 400-year-old ancient oak produces 234,000 litres of oxygen a year while soaking up carbon dioxide, and can support more than 2,000 species of bird, insect, fungus, and lichen. 📍my favourite oak #lakedistrict
