The growing rebirth of trade unionism is giving ordinary working people the political and intellectual confidence to stand up for themselves. Labour councillors must support them as we fight together for the hope of a finer, fairer Britain. morningstaronline.co.uk/article/f/labo…

Despite the hyperfactionalism which has damaged Labour — @andyburnham, many others and I were blocked by an NEC ignorant of our historic pluralism — it remains a great vehicle of hope. There are fantastic members seeking to return Labour to our roots; I am proud to support them.

This photo takes me right back. Working as a home carer for Stockport Council. It was my first proper job. A special job. But one of the toughest I've ever done. I know what it’s like to wash someone, cook for them, and make time to actually listen to them before rushing off to the next call with the clock ticking. I know how it feels to graft hard day and night doing tough, physical shifts for wages I struggled to get by on. That's why I've always fought for a fairer deal for social care. And I'm proud we started laying the foundations for change through the Employment Rights Act with the framework for the first ever fair pay agreement for adult social care workers. But that’s also why the Prime Minister's announcement today matters so much. A National Care Service could be genuinely transformative. For decades, governments have kicked this issue down the road because they have seen it as too risky, too difficult and too complicated. That changes today.

For too long, we’ve been told that ending rough sleeping will take decades or even that it's impossible. I'm not having that. This is something a government can fix if it chooses to. Today, I’m choosing to. The Passage are an organisation leading the way on this - I was proud to chat to their team this morning.

I will never retract my public support for innocent children, nor from doing what little I can to ensure Britain stands as a moral leader in an increasingly chaotic world. @andyburnham’s apology is a welcome corrective — there is still much more our country can and ought to do.

Andy Burnham says Labour ‘didn’t get it right’ as he apologises for its stance on Gaza. A huge and important intervention from the potential next leader of the Labour Party. theguardian.com/politics/2026/…

In response to the then-leadership’s equivocation over war crimes in Gaza, I coordinated hundreds of Labour colleagues urging for a ceasefire. After over a decade as a Labour councillor, I was blocked by the party’s NEC from restanding because of this.

As @andyburnham has suggested, Labour has been damaged by intense hyper-factionalism. This is why a team of us are today seeking to return Labour to our roots — to champion the public control of the essentials of life, and to restore party democracy and our historic pluralism.

'It's an end to neoliberalism and trickle-down economics which did not trickle down very much at all.' Andy Burnham signals that he will take a ‘very different’ political direction when he becomes Prime Minister, promising a more 'inclusive approach' to government.

It is obvious that the good people of Makerfield — and decent Labour members — are sick off trickle-down economics, corporate parasitism and the liquidation of our valuable national treasures. A vote for @andy4makerfield is the hope of rejecting decades of neo-liberal orthodoxy.

The hyper-factionalism that has captured the Labour Party has caused huge damage. This is why we have come together to campaign to restore party democracy and our historic pluralism, and by returning Labour to our roots, put us back on a path to regain public confidence.

Labour’s founders foresaw over a century ago that our party would only succeed if it reflected the broadest traditions of British socialism and the working class. After tomorrow, I will be working hard to restore our historic pluralism, and continue arguing for socialist ideas.

The hyper-factionalism which has underscored Starmer’s leadership has created a profound danger of Labour transmuting into an institution dominated by what I would call the NPC politician, a phenomenon which I have detailed for @LabourHub labourhub.org.uk/2026/05/06/the…

After serving as a Labour councillor for over a decade, I have been blocked the party’s NEC from restanding tomorrow because of my role in co-authoring a pro-trade union open letter, and coordinating hundreds of Labour colleagues urging Starmer to call for a ceasefire in Gaza.

"We can stop a fish and chip shop opening next to a school, but not an Adult Gaming Centre next to a homeless shelter." Our Harlesden councillors spoke to the @GR_APPG about the powers councils and communities need to have a say over their high streets 👇 #StopTheSpread

We're in Parliament today, giving evidence to the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Gambling Reform on the powers local councils need to say no to excessive gambling operators. Councils like Brent are bound by legislation which aims to permit, rather than protect. @GRHAPPG 🧵

🚨 Stop Gambling With Our Lives We're giving evidence to Parliament tomorrow in the APPG on Gambling-Related Harms, showing how councils are stuck with one hand tied behind their backs when it comes to saying no to new gambling operators. It's time to make a change. @GRHAPPG

WE WON! Beyond proud of the hundreds of GMB members at Medirest who stood together and demanded equal pay and conditions. Now they’ve just won huge improvements to their pay and terms at LNWH, including parity of pay which delivers an up to *25%* pay rise for the lowest paid.
