This photo takes me right back. Working as a home carer for Stockport Council. It was my first proper job. A special job. But one of the toughest I've ever done. I know what it’s like to wash someone, cook for them, and make time to actually listen to them before rushing off to the next call with the clock ticking. I know how it feels to graft hard day and night doing tough, physical shifts for wages I struggled to get by on. That's why I've always fought for a fairer deal for social care. And I'm proud we started laying the foundations for change through the Employment Rights Act with the framework for the first ever fair pay agreement for adult social care workers. But that’s also why the Prime Minister's announcement today matters so much. A National Care Service could be genuinely transformative. For decades, governments have kicked this issue down the road because they have seen it as too risky, too difficult and too complicated. That changes today.

For too long, we’ve been told that ending rough sleeping will take decades or even that it's impossible. I'm not having that. This is something a government can fix if it chooses to. Today, I’m choosing to. The Passage are an organisation leading the way on this - I was proud to chat to their team this morning.

In response to the then-leadership’s equivocation over war crimes in Gaza, I coordinated hundreds of Labour colleagues urging for a ceasefire. After over a decade as a Labour councillor, I was blocked by the party’s NEC from restanding because of this.

As @andyburnham has suggested, Labour has been damaged by intense hyper-factionalism. This is why a team of us are today seeking to return Labour to our roots — to champion the public control of the essentials of life, and to restore party democracy and our historic pluralism.

The hyper-factionalism that has captured the Labour Party has caused huge damage. This is why we have come together to campaign to restore party democracy and our historic pluralism, and by returning Labour to our roots, put us back on a path to regain public confidence.

Labour’s founders foresaw over a century ago that our party would only succeed if it reflected the broadest traditions of British socialism and the working class. After tomorrow, I will be working hard to restore our historic pluralism, and continue arguing for socialist ideas.
