My 2015 graph playing out in real time. The scary thing is my graph doesn’t start at early LLMs—it starts 4 billion years ago with the origin of life. What’s happening now is THAT big.

It's happening.

@mcuban It varies from industry to industry, but for footwear and apparel there's no infrastructure or supply chain. She's absolutely right. Will people figure it out. Yes. But the level of disruption is unnecessary.

@sama I get why this boosts traffic and why that matters. But, I rely on ChatGPT so much that Pro’s worth it for me. The past week, it’s been noticeably worse. Now I’m leaning more on Grok. For now, I still rely mostly on ChatGPT. Just some feedback.

@JNicholsonnn @tferriss I think the variance is higher. But either way, simmer vs roaring is due to more heat increasing the rate of phase change. The movement of the water is the main factor (as some others stated) to the boiled egg consistency. Ex - water freezing still vs moving. Super interesting!
English

@JunusKhan @tferriss Good point.
But in pot of boiling water (regardless of how gently) every molecule is probably within ~1% of 100C I would speculate, so does that 1% fluctuation actually make an appreciable difference on the egg? 🤷♂️
English

In the last few years, I’ve developed a love affair with soft-boiled eggs, which can be a decadent indulgence if done right.
Here’s my approach:
1) Bring water to a boil. 2) Gently add eggs and set timer for exactly 5 minutes. 3) Manage the heat so it’s a gentle bubbling boil, not a violent lava pit. 4) At 5 minutes, pour out the hot water and replace with cold tap water. 5) Remove, peel, and enjoy.
English

@JNicholsonnn @tferriss Boiling water's bulk temp is 100C, but each molecule is not 100C. If that was true then it would all instantaneously turn to steam. Water boiling more vigorously is changing phase faster.
English

@tferriss Does the “gentleness” of the boil actually matter since, by definition, water can’t get hotter than boiling? (So gentle boiling vs aggressively boiling is the same temp?)
Serious question.

FROM MAGA TO CHINA
Here are four things MAGA is getting wrong, and why it's handing over the world to China.
(1) First, MAGA correctly understands that America’s economic position is in decline but thinks this is due to economic competition itself, rather than lack of competitiveness.
(2) Second, MAGA also understands that the US has wasted trillions abroad in foreign wars, but thinks the problem is global leadership itself rather than poor leadership.
(3) Third, MAGA knows that their Blue American enemies have allies abroad, but has incorrectly overreacted to this by treating every non-Red-American as an enemy.
(4) Fourth, MAGA sees the billions of dollars flowing from the US to foreign recipients, but isn't grasping that the US can only print those dollars in the first place so long as it's the hub of a global empire.
When you put these together you can both understand MAGA's actions and understand why they will not lead to the intended result.
Basically: MAGA is hyperfocused on cutting off any apparent flow of funds from Red Americans to Blue Americans and non-Americans. And they only have ~500 days in power. So they're trying to quickly shut off imports, close down institutions, and exit all wars.
OK.
Except the reason the imports exist in the first place is because US products aren't competitive relative to Chinese products (or Fed printing). The reason those institutions exist is because the US set them up to run the world. And the reason those wars are happening is not because of American leadership per se, but because of the absence of good leadership.
If you shut all of that down at once — if you abandon global competition and global leadership — you shut down American Empire, and with it the ability to print money. And then everyone in that empire has a very bad time.
English

@GadSaad @realDonaldTrump That unelected officials/billionaires have no place in government but here we are. What kind of question is that? Did you say the same after Biden address?
English

Genuine question to @realDonaldTrump detractors. In listening to his speech tonight, are there particular issues that you agreed with? If so, which ones?
English

@StationCDRKelly One’s opinion of Putin is not relevant to what happened today. Zelensky debating topics immaterial to the ceasefire hurt the chances of the ceasefire.
English

@ArmandDoma @lulumeservey Leaders need to do what is right for the end state and that often includes weathering short term acute discomfort.
English

@lulumeservey You have to keep in mind that Zelensky is an elected official with a domestic audience that would not take kindly to him just lying down and taking it

In any interaction, always remember the strategic objective
If you’re Zelensky, the goal should NOT be to win a debate, but to win SYMPATHY
Yielding the debate but strengthening the relationship = a win
Damaging the relationship to try to win a debate = what happened today

Vance: Have you said thank you once? Zelenskyy: You think if you speak very loudly— Trump: He’s not speaking loudly. You’ve done a lot of talking. You’re not winning this

@exrayspec @waitbutwhy I think discomfort contributes, but it’s mainly forming a new habit of putting on a headset that’s deterring. You can get a similar experience with a Meta Quest and it’s lighter/more balanced, but that form factor is also underutilized as an external monitor.

Allow me to explain this absurd thing on my head (made by a 3D printer, not Apple).
I am possibly the only person on Earth who uses the Apple Vision Pro 20+ hours a week. As a writer, it's just such a MASSIVE upgrade to go from sitting in an office looking at a 32-inch monitor to sitting on a mountaintop, totally immersed and undistracted, looking at a 50-foot screen. There's just one problem: the idiotic way Apple designed their headset, all the weight sits your face. This is uncomfortable and was on the way to making me look 80 years old.
My friend @jcoon1800, also appalled by Apple, designed a solution: a headset that redistributes the weight from the face to the top and back of the head. The headset is now not touching my face at all—it hovers a millimeter off the skin. This is WORLD'S more comfortable, causes no skin damage, and can be worn for hours with no issue—way better than even the lightest headsets I've worn.
This isn't an ad and the headset isn't for sale. I just needed to say: The fact that one dude managed to figure this out and Apple somehow did not boggles my mind. @apple please talk to Jonathan and get your shit together. VR, even with a big heavy headset, does not have to be uncomfortable! It's all in the design.
(@mkbhd get in touch, you need to try this.)
