Parliamentarians are recognizing what clinicians, experts, and people with lived experience have warned for years: the assurances that MAiD for mental illness can be implemented safely are not evidence-based.
An indefinite pause to this legislation is important, but Canada must focus on strengthening safeguards, oversight, and transparency in MAiD, and go even further by repealing Track 2.

Some senators can't hide their contempt for the witnesses - including a woman whose mother was killed by MAiD.
I would think if only for sake of professionalism someone should be able to not sound and look like they are dripping with contempt. But that's a bar too high for some.

I am genuinely really upset about tonight.
Are the 'leaders' of our society completely bereft of morality? Utterly incapable of acting like respectful adults. Who treats witnesses this way? How do these people even dare to use the word dignity when they treat people like this?

This is one of the worst pieces of writing I’ve read on MAiD. The problem the committee is having isn’t “imbalance”, it’s that they just want to outright ignore perspectives that are critical of the MAiD regime, and that’s be becoming harder for them.
