Makes it to knockouts alongside sole EU team H2k (who faces Albus Nox for a free run to semis) 2017: C9 is 3rd seed, strongest performing NA team. Takes WE to 5 in knockouts. 2018: That's right; C9 is 3rd seed, strongest performing NA team. Beats Afreeca to make it to semis, loses to Finalist Fnatic. 2020: TL is 3rd seed, just as strong as seed 2 FLY. 2021: C9 is 3rd seed, defeats Rogue & FPX to make knockouts alongside sole EU rep MAD. By far the strongest NA rep.

@T90Official The average viewer is a casual who cares more about novelty than excellent gameplay. That's why the map pools are getting increasingly gimmicky and every tournament is full of complaints that Hera won.

@TheViperAOE @paradox303_ Possibly true, although it was more than just this one series. The final round had a lot of bad / pointless matches because of format flaws. (Lierrry Sebastian, daut Mihai). Other esports use GSL groups to avoid these problems and make every match count.

@JustJakattack @paradox303_ Might not be fair to the rest of the bracket; but in this specific situation it’s the only way to make both players play with competitive integrity.

Sitaux deciding to not give 100% yesterday is ultimately a failure of the format. This is why players shouldn’t know their knockout path so they can “choose” what route they want to go. Should have been some form of draw.

@TheViperAOE @paradox303_ That wouldn't be fair to the winner of the other 2nd/3rd place clashes, they can't all pick their opponents. Random would be the only fair way to do if committed to having a round of 12.

@paradox303_ These exact situations are easily solved by allowing the winner of their match to pick which of the two brackets he enters. Very unfortunate situation.

@Hera_Aoe GSL groups remove the need to use tiebreakers and make sure that every game matters. Really removes the hassle and incentivizes every game to matter. Other esports have used this format for decades, long overdue for aoe2.

@ClarkHELLSCREAM @iNS4NE_HS @TicTac_HS It's not unfair at all, because the sponsors you desire for tournaments can expect the same treatment from blizzard (0 advertising) that the main events get. The YouTube deal did massive damage to the landscape and I hope the viewership and support increase, but don't expect it.

@JustJakattack @iNS4NE_HS @TicTac_HS But that's exactly why it's impressive that this event pulled the viewership it did, with no advertising, barely any events this year, but the community still wants to see more tournaments and has been very vocal about it. The Watch Parties are a great example of that.

If there's one conclusion we can make from this MT, it's that Heartshtone needs more tournaments. It was so fun to play and watch and it's a shame that we only have 3 official tournaments per year. I wish we had more third-party tournaments to fill the void between MTs 🙏

@iNS4NE_HS @TicTac_HS A cursory glance shows that as still lower than some (not all) tour stops from 2018. So it's not really misinformation, although I think you just didn't like my tone. I simply doubt you'll get events like the heyday given the viewership is lower and esports winter is raging.

@JustJakattack @TicTac_HS Are you aware that there were like 20+ watch parties for the MT? Feno and Pocket had 2.5-3k viewers + Solary 2k+ a lot more so I think we can safely assume peak viewership was at least 35k which is not bad for a "dying" 10 year old game with 0 advertisement

@iNS4NE_HS Hoping that there is a way to make community tournaments with actual cash prizes with sponsors in the future, sadly atm apart from lans and the occasional Solary tourneys there really isn’t much

@coachseeel Brazil has historically taken wins against Korean and Chinese teams, how is the current level getting better every year? This is just comparing their current level to their 2020 dip.

At this point is it a suprise that VCS, CBLOL get better ever year where as LJL, OCE, NA looks worse or the same year by year? Vibrant domestic ecosystem - focus on local region = better performance, longetivity, business viability

@gr33nzo @Sottle If I had to guess, they were just terrified of any potential extra negative PR, after all the sexual harassment and abuse lawsuits, and rushed out a change from some focus group. I don't think bloodthirsty orcs would have a problem with a gender binary either tbh.

@JustJakattack @Sottle I wonder if Blizzard consulted people from the LGBTQ+ community to see what people actually wanted in that situation. I honestly don’t know, as a cis male games have always represented me very well but I know that hasn’t always been the case for others.

@gr33nzo @Sottle Yeah back before dragonflight they did, was one of the things they changed in 2022. A really awkward middle ground where 2 genders people hate it, and neo-pronoun people hate it.

@gr33nzo @Sottle There's definitely worse games for it. In world of warcraft they just removed the option and so they have "body type 1" for male and "body type 2" for female. It's quite laughable and I don't think anyone likes it.

@Sottle @gr33nzo More specifically, that the pronouns in the game are not directly tied to the sex of the character, as in previous games.

@gr33nzo Nah this has all sprung up around Starfield having a basic entry field in the character creator for what characters refer to you as. They're mad at the literal existence of pronouns as a concept, as baffling as that sounds.
