🚨 It’s suddenly crystal clear why Morgan McSweeney’s government phone was so conveniently “stolen” in October last year.
That device likely held the WhatsApps, texts, and instructions around Peter Mandelson’s controversial appointment as US ambassador — the one rushed through despite Epstein links and vetting red flags.
Now we’re hearing from Olly Robbins and others about missing paper trails, bypassed security, and blunt orders like “just f***ing approve it.”
Funny how those exact comms vanished right before Parliament forced the release of related documents.
Phone snatched by a bike thief in Pimlico? Reported, “killed” remotely, minimal investigation, wrong address logged. No recovery, no hassle.
Coincidence? Or the perfect way to make awkward messages disappear forever?
Labour’s cover-up is unravelling in real time. The public deserves the full story — not convenient thefts.
#Mandelson #McSweeneyPhone #Starmer

English

@PaulBrandITV That is a red herring and you know that.
It’s all about process and desire. The protocols by Starmer were deliberately massaged by Starmer knowing in the real world Mandy would not have a hope in hell of ever passing a top level vetting process.
English

@HoodedClaw1974 @greggkeattch Probably because he has never made a pass at her. I can see why.
English

@Steven_Swinford Did Mandelson get the job before vetting had been completed?
Also Starmer must have heeded caution when numerous MP’s and newspapers had information that Mandleson had failed his vetting.“I only heard about it last Tuesday”,does not wash. He is toast with butter and jam on top!
English

Here's the official government position on the Mandelson vetting scandal this morning, according to Liz Kendall:
* Olly Robbins was 'wrong' not to tell the PM that Mandelson had failed security vetting, he was 'wrong' again not to do so when the PM repeatedly claimed in public - incorrectly - that due process had been followed
* The PM would not have given Mandelson clearance if he knew that he had failed UK Security Vetting
* No 10 asked 'repeated questions' about Mandelson's vetting and was told 'due process' had been followed. These questions, and the responses, are now key
* Starmer allies are warning allies that changing leaders now - at a time of global and economic instability - would be reckless
English

@MatthewTorbitt Doesn’t matter if he knew or not he lied or was reckless. His phone needs to looked at.
English

I believe Keir Starmer when he says he didn’t know Mandelson failed his security clearance. His own staff would tell me how things would go on around him. He is an empty vessel.
My money would be on the former chief of staff who was Mandelson’s protege and likely promised him this, saying it had to go through at any cost with Olly Robbins doing Number 10 a favour and being thrown under the bus afterwards.
It also throws that stolen phone into new light all of a sudden…
English

@afneil @Olicanarama @DailyMail MP’s must demand he hands over his mobile phone for scrutiny before he loses it.
English

ANDREW NEIL: We are being led by a man who staggers from crisis to impotence. These are the questions MPs MUST ask the PM next week

English

@SamCoatesSky @Gicmcp So why did Starmer confirm to the house that due process had taken place and Mandy had told him a pack of lies to get the job. Starmer had his fingers in the pie all the way through the process.

What do I think really happened with Mandelson and vetting?
In October, November and December 2024, No10 indicated it wanted to appoint Peter Mandelson as Ambassador to Washington.
It was presented with an array of people telling them not to: Cabinet ministers, spooks, officials in a vetting report. All raised major red flags.
Starmer and McSweeny made clear they weren’t interested in any objection, and this must go ahead at all costs.
So Mandelson’s appointment was announced mid December 2024.
The vetting we are focussed on today came later, in January 2025. Vetting of ambassadors is the responsibility of the FCDO and Olly Robbins.
One bit of the system said no - the UKSV agency said don’t appoint Mandelson.
We don’t know on what grounds, but probably the grounds No10 had seen and rejected as a reason to block. Olly Robbins cleared Mandelson. Very quietly, Mandelson didn’t get the very highest level of clearance when he got the job, but he got the overall OK because of Robbins. Robbins did No10 a favour.
This is because Olly Robbbins knew that going to No10 post announcement, and saying the Mandelson appointment can’t happen, was politically impossible.
And civil servants want to deliver for their political masters. So Olly fixed it for Keir: and is now paying a price.
Olly Robbins has - incidentally - done No10 a second massive political favour. The really really toxic claim doing the rounds last night was that surely someone - anyone - in No10
DID know the UKSV agency turned down the vetting
Olly Robbins is making clear he didn’t tell people the UKSV verdict because that would be inappropriate as part of the process he followed. It’s not even clear he saw it.
No10 don’t seem to realise he’s done them a favour, and are releasing documents to challenge alternative versions of events. Let’s see how it plays out.
The bottom line is No10 wanted Mandelson come what may. They rammed it through.
One quango; post appointment announcement, was never realistically going to be allowed to stop Mandelson taking the job because the top of Government had publicly committed to it. They hadn’t wanted to heed the warnings earlier; and were in too deep
That’s where I think we are
English

@alexwickham What a nonsense post.
They all knew months ago.
The MSM had the info and cabinet ministers were asked about. Starmer has lied his pants off.

BREAKING: Sources say Olly Robbins felt bound by the rules of the security vetting process NOT to tell the PM, No10 or the foreign secretary about the concerns raised about Mandelson
That means it appears No10 WERE in fact unaware he had issues with his vetting
And sources say in fact Mandelson DID NOT simply fail his vetting. Instead issues were raised and the FCDO security team and ultimately Robbins had to make a decision on whether to grant him DV clearance. It was their decision and there was no “overturning,” sources say
As @SamCoatesSky reports via former security official Ciaran Martin, Robbins was prohibited from sharing information about what happened with anyone outside the FCDO security team
Sources say the point of the vetting process is that it is extremely invasive and people who go through it must be confident they can tell the whole truth and not have highly embarrassing information about their personal lives leak or be spread around colleagues
That means the circle of people allowed to know about what happens in each vetting case is very small and the information is highly privileged
The decision on whether to approve Mandelson’s clearance, according to the vetting rules, is taken by a small team of FCDO security officials and ultimately Robbins, sources say
Under no circumstance is Robbins or that team able to share the details of the vetting case with No10 or anyone else, sources say. Robbins felt he could not share it with any minister or private office, sources say
It appears the PM and No10 were unaware of how these rules were perceived by Robbins and FCDO, and think he should have told them. Allies of Robbins think it is unfair he was sacked
But crucially it appears right now that Robbins did not tell No10 and they were actually in the dark about all this until Tuesday. What an unbelievable mess
English

@JuliaHB1 @MalcolmCGodfrey He told Parliament that due process had taken place. He is toast with jam on it!
English

Just to be clear... Lord Mandelson, a proven liar, failed security vetting to be the UK's most senior diplomat trusted with vital state and security secrets - but no one at the Foreign Office bothered to tell the PM or anyone else at Number 10 about it.
Do they seriously expect us to believe this claptrap? Just how dumb do they think we are?!
The Prime Minister is either a liar or a fool. Either way, he has to resign.

What has Starmer really achieved apart from breakfast clubs and the decay of our country?

English

@MarieTidball Do please tell me, where are they all going? Smoke and mirrors. You will never answer this question with honesty.
English

You won't hear a peep about this from Farage, Tice or Jenrick.
Under the Tories, up to 400 hotels were being used to house asylum seekers.
With Labour, there are now just 185, with 11 more hotels re-opening to the public, saving the taxpayer £65 million a year.
Alex Norris MP@AlexJJNorris
There were more than 400 asylum hotels under the previous government – that number has been more than halved, with 11 more closing this week. Labour is bringing the asylum system under control.
