Last evening, we watched Too Early for Birds: Wangari Maathai’s Edition, and it was a mind-blowing show. Anisa Akinyi, who plays the role of Maathai, looked, spoke, and moved just like her. It was surreal The play powerfully captures the life of Wangari Maathai, from her humble village upbringing to her extraordinary courage, resilience, and the heavy price she paid for defying a dictatorship that was destroying our environment. Without her activism, there would be no Uhuru Park, Karura Forest, or many of the other water catchment areas she fought so hard to protect. Her story is one that stays with you long after the curtain falls. Experiencing it with my family made the evening even more meaningful, a powerful reminder of the kind of legacy worth building. If you’re looking for something truly impactful to do this weekend, this is it. There are still shows today and tomorrow, so don’t miss it!

@JustWacuka @CEPMediaHubs We do! I do! Without her I’d not have discovered that I can act. She taught me that we do what’s needed then look for who was at fault at end of the day. I can hear her voice saying ‘we’re producers, we’re never fazed’! What a remarkable woman. I’m lucky I met her.

The people of North Sentinel Island are among the last of the surviving indigenous “uncontacted” tribes, largely because they shoot every colonizer and missionary who attempts to contact them on sight. Almost every other indigenous group that did not do this (and some that did unsuccessfully), from the Americas to Hawaii to Australia to Africa, either no longer exists today or is currently on a path to being wiped out by colonizers/missionaries.
