🚨 Here we go again, Illinois. On July 1, another gas tax hike kicks in as the motor fuel tax jumps from 48.3¢ to 49.6¢ per gallon. In 2019, Pritzker signed Rebuild Illinois, tying the motor fuel tax to inflation so it automatically rises every year with no new vote required. Illinois already has some of the highest combined gas taxes in America at nearly 85¢ per gallon total. Gas prices in parts of Chicago are already over $5 a gallon.
