@MapsbyW Thanks! The hardest part is definitely finding decent heightmap files that also look good as renders. There's a lot of resources for terrain maps around the world so I did more of those, cities are much harder to find

@Justhenrydan @ephtracy Thank you thank you! I keep going back to that Yellowstone map, I just love everything about it, the choice of font, how it's not north oriented and yellowstone is my favorite national park.

@Justhenrydan @ephtracy That is so genius of you, I would never have thought of that myself. With your permission, I would love to try out this workflow for one of my 30 days map challenge maps and credit you! Would that be ok?

@MapsbyW @ephtracy So I opened the image in Photoshop and just typed a text later over top, then reduced the opacity so the heightmap showed through a bit! You could do the same thing in any image editor, and just export it again as a png/jpg

@Justhenrydan @ephtracy Gotcha! I just started playing with aerialod but I understand almost everything you are saying. Could you expand on the “typing out the letters” part? Did you use ArcMap/pro/QGIS? Did you digitize the letters or? Thanks so much for your help!

@MapsbyW @ephtracy Thanks! The renders are generated based on a heightmap, which determines height from the light and dark parts of a black and white image. I typed out the words and edited it to lighten the parts with the letters, so it's like those parts got moved up higher above the landscape!
