Amazing that a party will quite possibly give up the mayoralty of Manchester to allow somebody the chance to stand as an MP to depose their own PM. Utter chaos. And why not just ennoble Burnham and retain Rusholme?

Senior Labour party figures, including cabinet ministers, tell me the NEC is not expected to block Andy Burnham's selection a second time. Several members of the 10-person committee that makes the decision have confirmed to us tonight they would give him the green light. And sources close to Starmer believe he will no longer be in a position to block Burnham’s return - even if it means a leadership contest before next general election - as MPs from across party would be furious.

@K8_Bee24_Lex I think that is a fair criticism in terms of the current Labour government. It might not make me popular with everyone, but I think the Blair/Brown government had a lot more political conviction behind it even if you didn’t agree with it.

@JustinGreaves I don’t know if they all are, none of them seem to have a backbone. A big part of the problem is that most of them are only bothered about holding onto power - they don’t actually have any conviction so it makes it impossible for them to stand by their decisions.

I have some sympathy with her in that the PM exploited her when he wanted to make a point about the “first female Chancellor” and now the same PM is letting her take the fall for the failures of his government. He is in charge. If her position is untenable, so is his.

It doesn’t matter what you think of Rachel Reeves this is a picture of a woman who has been crying a lot and overnight too to have such swollen eyes. Leave her alone. She’s a politician yes, but she’s a human being in distress. It’s not ok to demand to know why or make her account for it.

I sincerely appreciate the amount of prayers I have had but my last tweet about my brother was overwhelming so I'm restricting replies. He's gone. He's being taken off of life support and his organs are going to be used: kidneys, liver and pancreas. In death he will save lives 🙏

Stroke doctors have spoken to my mum and sister in law. The stroke has had devastating consequences for his brain and he's unlikely to survive. They're going to take him off of sedation now. My big brother. He's 53. He has 4 kids and a wife...this is devastating 😢

I have an update regarding my brother and I wish it was better news. They were concerned his breathing wasn't good and he was sleepy so they've placed him in a medically induced coma. They're concerned it's possibly a bleed on the brain and they will be doing scans. Just 🙏
