@welleducatedinv @unusual_whales Laws are the answer if the law is what’s preventing people from being treated better. Especially if the law allows for investors to sue for fiduciary reasons.

@saveaustintx I work in an industry that deals with hail damage yearly. Not sure how well solar holds up to hail but Texas doesn’t seem to be the greatest place to build these data centers. Can you imagine an F5 taking out this thing?

@welleducatedinv @unusual_whales Maybe, maybe not. Completely irrelevant to how the laws currently work. The law says investors > employees. If you want to see that change, it’s gonna have to be done thru legislation. If a corporation can increase profits thru HB-1 workers, AI, or automation they have to.

@Femmininja @tgrierhisd During Covid lockdowns, our district toyed around with the idea of sending teachers and assistants door to door when kids didn’t log on for online classes. The question that ended that idea was, “so, you are going to force a female employee to go to a stranger’s house alone?”

@tgrierhisd Whose job is it to call? Probably another chore that gets lumped in on teachers, who don’t have time to make 3-5 calls a day. Then, you get panicked parents who send sick kids, or just further alienate those who already despise the system. It’s a no win. Send a doctor & a cop.

Research is clear: the most effective way to reduce chronic absenteeism is simple—contact parents immediately, every time a student is absent. Yet too few schools do it. Why?

@iluminatibot Electric companies petition the governmentfor rate increases because people use less electricity. The government gives it to them because they work for the corporations.

Explain why our electric bills never decrease, even though we have swapped to all LED lights, energy star appliances, built massive solar and wind farms.

@MrPatMineo As far as D1 football goes, it's just a matter of time before the NCAA gets kicked to the curb. And they deserve it. Leeches.

For clarity, Trump’s new NCAA executive order (transfer limits, NIL, etc.) is more symbolic than anything. It’s not really enforceable in the way people think. The NCAA isn’t a government agency- it’s a private organization with its own rules. The federal government can apply pressure (mainly through funding or regulation), but it can’t just rewrite NCAA policies overnight. And more importantly, recent court rulings have already sided with athletes on issues like compensation and mobility. Trying to roll that back isn’t simple- it would almost certainly end up back in court. Yes, schools receive federal funding, but realistically, it would be extremely difficult (and politically messy) to start tying educational funding to whether an athlete transfers or earns NIL money. At this point, trying to reverse the current system is kind of like trying to put toothpaste back in the tube. NIL and the transfer portal era are already here. I don’t expect any major immediate changes despite the headlines. If anything, this is more about signaling and pushing the conversation toward potential legislation down the line. And honestly-with everything else going on- there are probably bigger priorities to focus on first. 🤷🏻‍♂️

@JustinLilly1 @Sarah4Texas Substitute the word “beer” for “alcohol” & you’re pretty close; beer sales had already slipped after Bud & Miller-Coors fumbled away the craft/micro sector & haven’t recovered; the current generations want more variety, hence increased spirits & THC sales & it’s not slowing down

@MrPatMineo The only enforceable “solution” is to start making scholarships and NIL deals enforceable contracts. Stay for X years or until graduation or the penalty is X. Not performance based, presence based.

Taxing labor is weird when you think about it, we punish people for working harder and earning more. Andrew Yang wants to stop that and let workers keep more of their paycheck. Sounds good on paper, but governments still need money so the real fight is what replaces it. What would you tax instead of wages?

@Doc_Texas @snakprescott We’re far too lazy as a culture now to accomplish anything thru Congress. Someone accomplishing everything thru executive order and fighting all thru SCOTUS is the preferred method. 😩

Lawyer twitter: How do you legally limit the amount of times a kid can transfer?
Yahoo Sports@YahooSports

President Trump's order intends to limit athlete transfer movement, cap player eligibility, require funding requirements for women and Olympic sports, and regulate NIL collectives, per Yahoo Sports' @RossDellenger. As an enforcement lever, past iterations of the order relied on the reduction of a university’s federal funding — an incentive for schools and conferences to abide by the concepts. @jeremyrooks @dbeshada1 They are seeing the potential long term environmental impact of these data centers in other places and are rightfully concerned. This sudden rush to build as many of these facilities as quickly as possible seems dystopian. Why are they suddenly soo important?

What’s worse is we don’t ban together and vote that crap put, especially at that level. Also, it’s insane that people so adamantly oppose data centers that are going to create tons of jobs in their communities, not to mention bad ass internet! We had the same exact thing in Sand Springs OK recently.

Sadly, this is all too common, and shows, beyond a shadow of a doubt, we live in a time where we are taxed to death without true representation. The community comes out in opposition to the project, and the, alleged, “representatives” of that community, support it. Donors over constituents. Horrible.
Wall Street Apes@WallStreetApes

This is literally insane So many people showed up to oppose a $6 billion dollar data center in Missouri they had to use bleachers The whole crowd yells and chants they don’t want the data center Festus City Council voted to approve the data center anyway right in their faces
