I’m so tired of these intellectually vacant takes. Do any of you understand the technological, regulatory, and social overhaul needed to “replace” physicians with robots? Tech isn’t even there yet. Just because your chatbot can spit out intelligent differentials doesn’t mean we have scalable robots with visuospatial and tactile feedback systems to conduct just a simple physical. When we get there, if we do, no job is safe. So either nobody studies anything, or go to med school…

Physicians were always empowered to continue their own practices. However they realized they had created value they wouldn't be able to monetize upon retirement unless they sold earlier. They chose not to leave the value of their practices on the table. So sold to major health chains or PE.

In 2012, 76% of physician practices were doctor-owned. Today it's 37%. In one decade, physicians went from running medicine to working for it. Private equity. Health systems. Insurance companies. Everyone's extracting value except the people seeing patients.

We will be able to remove the administrative bloat and take back power by using AI to replace the system that has been talking too much from doctors and patients alike. Physicians will become owner operators again as the burden of management, strategizing, as software development becomes accessible with AI.

Doctors are the face of healthcare. They are the entity that must see patients. They are the first to take the blame for a broken healthcare system while others strategically hide and keep the profit.

We are building a world where you are good by force, not by choice. This is going to make us morally sick.

Hospital CEOs and administrators will be irrelevant. Physicians will once again own and operate medical practices of all sizes. AI will be the overseen by Physicians. The presence of a real human physician will be necessary to oversee the care provided by AI. The administrators will have no function. Power over practices will be back in the hands of physicians, empowered by AI.
