When you see graphics that claim generous relief - you deserve to know the facts. $100 million amounts to a few bucks a household…it’s half of what they did last year and…it’s all YOUR ratepayer money to begin with. We in @MDSenateGOP & @MDhouseGOP have a real plan to provide significant month-over-month savings (see below for more details) 1/3. #mdpolitics #MDGA2026

Curious what the downside here is from a taxpayer perspective? Doesn’t the Moore administration WANT to identify and stop fraud so that social service funds can go to those who are truly needy and leave no one behind? 🤔

Maryland leaders are split over whether to cooperate with a new White House anti-fraud crackdown, even as state officials admit they cannot fully account for potential misuse of taxpayer-funded programs. bit.ly/41l92ws

They were warned. On the Senate floor in 2023. By me and Senator West. It was ignored because of the politics of it at the time. Also, lawyers get 20-25% of it and most of the firms involved are out of state big firms because of the nature of the litigation. I tried to cap attorneys fees with an amendment and that was also rejected.

@FOXBaltimore I can't believe our "great minds" in Annapolis were so myopic to just think that would affect only Catholic institutions. What clowns. Now they'll have raise raise the taxes again. Oh, and we'll have to pay for MEN to have free tampons on top of that.

Maryland has not set aside any money to pay what could amount to billions of dollars in child sexual abuse claims, and there’s growing concern among lawmakers that taxpayers will ultimately foot the bill through future tax or fee hikes. The issue came into focus Tuesday during a Senate debate over the state’s proposed $70.8 billion budget for fiscal year 2027. STORY: bit.ly/4rKIY98

You’re paying more for energy, and I’m working to fix it. The Strategic Energy Investment Fund was meant to lower costs, but those dollars are being redirected while utility bills rise. I pushed to refocus this funding on real relief for Maryland families.

@rMontgomery410 @JeffMorganTV @WMAR2News Well - we do have to have it to pay for roads and bridges but Maryland should stop the automatic increases every July, something we’ve been trying to do…and stop siphoning over half of our gas and car tax funds to non road/bridges transportation.

NEW: Republicans are proposing a 30 day pause on the gas tax amid high gas prices following the conflict in Iran. “We can’t control foreign policy, but we can do is provide some temporary relief,” said @JustinReady @WMAR2News

Maryland Republican Party
Yesterday, the House of Delegates debated HB 1532– the Democrats' embarrassingly inadequate "energy cost relief" bill. House Republicans fought and debated for hours, offering more than 18 amendments to improve the legislation. These amendments would have waived unnecessary fees, delivered more meaningful relief on energy bills, and reformed state policy to allow increased energy development– saving Maryland ratepayers hundreds of additional dollars and addressing the state's long-term energy crisis. Democrats rejected EVERY SINGLE ONE of them. Republicans are the only party in Annapolis fighting to actually lower your electricity bills.

After 350+ tax and fee increases - we can’t just say “hey this budget doesn’t have any” - government needs to take a haircut so we can provide relief to Maryland’s high cost of living. @mdsenategop fighting to do just that. #mdpolitics #MDGA2026

You know it’s Budget & BRFA day by the stack of amendments on my desk! Our @mdsenategop caucus has a number of amendments to cut unnecessary spending and use the savings to reduce Marylanders’ tax and cost of living burden - we are fighting it out in the floor today. #mdpolitics #MDGA2026

To make this clear, the doom loop goes: 1. City/state hike taxes to raise revenue 2. Corporate/individual taxpayers leave (Washington State is here) 3. Tax base shrinks, tax revenue falls 4. Either cut spending (lol) or raise taxes; if latter go to 1 and repeat

Amendment from Senator Mautz to the budget says that state funds cannot be provided to a nonprofit org IF the nonprofit is not in good standing with Secretary of State. There have been number of questions about non-profits that get state grants not having proper paperwork/tax forms in with the state. Committee chairman isn't sure it's phrased properly but is pledging that it will be included in the conference committee on the budget. We will watch for this closely. @MDSenateGOP

Amendment to cut 5% from non public safety state agencies that would have saved $527 million from budget - allowing for tax relief OR saving for next year's looming deficits - was just defeated on a 31-13, party-line vote. All 13 @MDSenateGOP members supported this modest cut.

@TrixxieSam @MDSenateGOP @MDhouseGOP It'll take getting rid of RGGI - being apart of that makes it unprofitable for companies to build/refurbish/keep open power plants here - and that's the point of Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative which has several northeastern states in it - ALL with higher energy costs.

@JustinReady Part of the problem is that parents don't like their kids feeling any discomfort or negative emotion. And sometimes that's required for potty training. Social media and the parenting books also tell parents this. It's absurd.

Your child should be potty trained to go to kindergarten. It's kind of a top 2-3 requirement of the job of a parent (obviously excluding children with some kind of disability). Yet, it seems like this is becoming a bridge too far - how do we expect teachers to focus on instruction with this kind of issue?

New Survey: 50% of kindergarten teachers report their students are having more difficulty using bathroom on their own? Look, schools cannot function if parents don't do even the basic minimum in teaching their own children to toilet independently What a disheartening survey
