The Wall Street Journal alleges that the real motivation behind Trump’s eagerness to force Ukraine into an ugly surrender is the idea that a lot of people close to him can make a lot of money doing business and deals in Russia. If this is true, beyond the disgusting morality of this and the huge geopolitical risks that it creates, none of these people salivating over their future riches are going to make a penny, and perhaps do a lot worse. I was once the largest foreign investor in Russia and I can say with certainty that the Russians aren’t going to let anyone profit in any way. They will talk nice at the outset to attract the investment, but once it’s there, they will steal, defraud, arrest, torture or even kill to make sure that no American makes any money. I’ve seen it so many times it’s almost universal. So, this shocking initiative is not only terrible policy, it’s spectacularly stupid business. wsj.com/world/russia/r…

The @BBCWorld, @AFP, @AP & @reuters have released a short film calling on the Israeli authorities to allow international journalists access to Gaza. In a joint video statement, the media groups said: "International journalists must now be allowed into Gaza to share the burden with Palestinian reporters there so we can all bring the facts to the world."

Three top British newspapers carried incorrect front page stories with headlines angled on supposed ‘pro-trans’ messages on Kirk suspect’s ammunition — all based on one report that turned out not to be true. Wonder if they will carry corrections?

AFP Journalists’ Association on reporters in Gaza: ‘Since AFP was founded in August 1944, we have lost journalists in conflicts, we have had wounded and prisoners in our ranks, but none of us can remember seeing a colleague die of hunger. We refuse to see them die’

Rachel Reeves in Manchester after taking questions from a planned list of hacks: "Any other questions?" Chancellor not afraid to overrule aides, like the PM who never takes Qs from reporters who aren't on the list.

It’s so disappointing that a national newspaper thinks it’s ok to use handout pictures from political parties and government departments. Two out of three photos on this page are from both. #notphotojournalism #pr

In 1970, the UK and Norway both discovered oil in the North Sea. The UK sold their reserves to private markets while Norway kept state ownership. This ONE decision created the biggest wealth gap in European history. Here's the full story: 🧵

🧵Three years ago, when Russia invaded Ukraine, EU, UK and other nations vowed to wage economic war, via the toughest sanctions in history. So... how's that going? We've spent months documenting what ACTUALLY happened. Here's a thread of threads on the REAL story on sanctions...

Equinor, the Norwegian oil giant behind the Rosebank field said yesterday it was halving its renewable energy investment in favour of producing more polluting fossil fuel. They’re not alone. There’s a trend in global oil majors doing similar.

This time No.10 openly asked journalists "tell us in advance if you would like to ask a question." I refused because aides shouldn't have the power to distribute questions as a form of press control. Also ... No.10 has started asking reporters beforehand what they intend to ask

Yet another pic of my hand in the air hoping to ask the PM a question without having to beg his aides beforehand. It was the only hand up in the room, but Starmer ignored it (as per) and called on the reporters he was told to. Too scared to take an unplanned question.

Hugely disturbing reports trickling out of northern Gaza tonight. The Al Jazeera journalists on the ground, along with their colleagues, are risking their lives to tell the world what is happening. They are in immense danger.

Journalists on the ground in Jabalia report that the Israeli military has ordered medical and civil defense teams, via loudspeakers, to proceed to one of their checkpoints & leave the camp. They added that anyone remaining to conduct operations in the area will be targeted.

V. disappointing that the government didn't invite news photographers to the DPM's visit to Durham yesterday with biz sec Jonathan Reynolds but more surprising that newspapers who reported that Angela Rayner had hired a 'vanity photographer', have used his pictures today.
