it's really impressive what an LLM can do. The fact that I could, in about 6 hours of programming, make something that can implement cursed tests is really impressive But it feels like driving a model T. Implementations are insane, slow, and maliciously compliant

I’ve come around. I actually love precommit hooks now. Their existence is SUCH a useful way to filter for people I would never want to work with

@petergyang Type 2 sleep studies are super accessible these days, get the diagnosis for peace of mind If you truly need it then it'll change (and save) your life. It takes some getting used to but there are lots of great resources these days

My least favorite thing about the Midwest is that doing a Target errand, Amazon return at the UPS store, and getting gas is a 2 hour+ round trip. But: - the gas is $2.39/gallon - there are 210 Runzas on your route - you can buy liquor at Target, the UPS store, or the gas station

@GergelyOrosz Any word of a break-up fee 🤔 Does Figma pull a T-Mobile, walk away with a bag, and accelerate their path being an even stronger competitor? Clearly there's an opportunity loss where they could've been acquired by another company or accruing legal cost

On the short-term, this is a big loss for employees whose stock would have been liquid. On the longer run: Figma could easily bigger than Adobe in, say, 10 years. Adobe knew this. It’s why they were willing to pay so much ($20B) for the company dominating collaborative design.

@vRallev RxJava had a number of these scenarios where a combination of wrapping your exceptions in RuntimeExceptions and/or CompositeException could lead you to traversing causes for your own types... or they slip past you 😱

@vRallev If you're depending on somebody else to propagate your exceptions there's the non-zero possibility they turn it into something else - which can be especially impactful if you're trying to catch those to perform retries or access fields on them

Sam and I are shocked and saddened by what the board did today. Let us first say thank you to all the incredible people who we have worked with at OpenAI, our customers, our investors, and all of those who have been reaching out. We too are still trying to figure out exactly what happened. Here is what we know: - Last night, Sam got a text from Ilya asking to talk at noon Friday. Sam joined a Google Meet and the whole board, except Greg, was there. Ilya told Sam he was being fired and that the news was going out very soon. - At 12:19pm, Greg got a text from Ilya asking for a quick call. At 12:23pm, Ilya sent a Google Meet link. Greg was told that he was being removed from the board (but was vital to the company and would retain his role) and that Sam had been fired. Around the same time, OpenAI published a blog post. - As far as we know, the management team was made aware of this shortly after, other than Mira who found out the night prior. The outpouring of support has been really nice; thank you, but please don’t spend any time being concerned. We will be fine. Greater things coming soon.
