Redid my Texas Legislative Election Model. It accounts for a Dem +11 environment, factors in Cash On Hand (a candidate can increase their percentage by up to 3% based on this), how the district trends via the Texas Partisan Index, past election results, and how the incumbents vote record reflects the District. Lean D, Dem Flips: House District 34 - Villalobos House District 118 - Lujan (open) Lean R, Rep Flips: Senate District 9 - Remhet Tossups: House District 121 - LaHood House District 37 (Dem Flip) - Lopez House District 112 - Button House District 52 - Harris House District 94 - Tinderholt (open) House District 63 - Bumgarner Model can be seen here: …texaslegislativepreview.neocities.org/TexasLegislatu… #txlege

And when @CityOfDallas council members tried to have a productive meeting on solutioning another area/program to help alleviate the concentration of homelessness in downtown, they were THREATENED publicly by other council members to stop..... I wonder whatever happened with that and if Creuzot did anything before he got booted? dallasweekly.com/2025/09/dallas…

Dallas' 42 Million Dollar Homeless Park In 2024 Dallas City Council approved their 3rd Deck Park, it's promised to be what Klyde Warren Park and the newly opened Halperin Park are. A big park over Highway 30. A park with a catch, its adjacent to one of the city's largest homeless shelters (see picture below). The Bridge Homeless Shelter serves 800 homeless people a day. Annually, The Bridge serves 85% of the homeless population of Dallas County, that equated to 6,717 people in our last fiscal year (their statistics, not mine.) Nearly 1000 homeless people a day five feet away from this new park. Now I'm not going to throw our vulnerable population under the bus but I'd say that some of these individuals probably have some substance abuse issues and the nearby park might be a great haven for those activities to take place. I don't know about others, but this definitely is not the place I'm bringing my kids to and is not the promised connectivity of Downtown to the Cedars. The city should consider scrapping the park or moving the shelter because I have a hard time believing that both can exist harmoniously. The $42 million might be better spent building the fake Valley View/Midtown/International District Park that the city has lied to citizens about for years. keranews.org/news/2024-09-1…

@JustinVos Another Dallas elitist casting judgement and turning up his nose on those who are less fortunate than him. (Typical Dallas.......) With all of the wealth in this city by the elites in Turtle Creek, Prestonwood and Highland Park, Dallas could have solved it's homeless problem.

@JustinVos @LeoWhelan4 As someone who lives in the Cedars, I disagree that a community park should be scrapped due to the elite homeless class of Dallas. DISD construction is already underway one block from the Bridge. Connect the dots and connect the core.

@JustinVos It's crazy they'll do this simply because there's no guarantee the team (or league for that matter) is even around 3 years from now. It'll become a community rec center before you know it.

The City of Dallas is giving $57 million to the Dallas Wings WNBA team to build a practice facility at Joey Georgusis Park. This is probably a violation of Texas Local Government Code § 253.001 which requires voter approval for selling or disposing of dedicated park land in a way that removes it from public use. If you argue it's not because it's a "lease" that's a pretty slippery slope. Under that theory cities could "lease" any park space for apartments or whatever the deem appropriate for 100 years, with no issue (this would take away from the spirit of the law). To put into context how enormous this amount is... The city spent $125 million on the American Airlines Center, where The Stars, Mavericks, and concerts are hosted. Where the general public, you know can actually attend. Luckily, taxpayers are off the hook for the cost of the actual arena the city is building for the WNBA team. Tourists and businesses are paying for that through a hotel occupancy tax over a 30 year period. Ironically, this arena will be hypothetically across the street from another basketball arena for the Mavericks. So when your local Dallas library and swimming pool gets shut down, when the lawn isn't mowed at the park near your house, homeless encampments riddle your thoroughfares, and pot holes screw up the alignment on your car remember the reason for this is not the city's reckless spending but that your property taxes are not high enough, at least some in city leadership think so.

The city has Proposition U obligations (they’ll lose a lawsuit to the Texas AG and have to pay more in), the 30 year pension obligation rises significantly next year, and statewide property tax relief in Abbott’s new bill means they’ll be capped at a 3.5% (including NEW revenue) total budget increase every year. Only way to pay for a new City Hall, renovation, or lease would be through a bond. Good luck selling that to voters (you won’t). Austerity measures are terrible but when you can’t close 75 year old pools, a roller rink, a green certificate program or a plethora of other waste this is what you get. The nuance is boring but like usual Cara is correct.

Just going to say this - it's bad news but I've been telling Dallas residents this for quite a while... I hate to inform you, we are BROKE. How does the city manager/budget office expect to be able to pay rent? This is not a current expense. We can't add this to our budget. The city is so cash strapped it is thinking of closing 4 libraries to save $2.6 million over 2 years. We have continued to increase your water and sanitation bill, even forcing general fund expenses to the enterprise funds as a fee ($3/mo on your sanitation bill). The city manager is asking necessary, resident-facing departments to cut back significantly but wanting to keep functions of government unneeded or better outsourced at high staffing levels. Do you realize how much we pay for rec centers but they are barely open 40 hours a week? We need them to actually serve the community with robust hours to give teens a safe place to hang out, provide senior programming, after school care - this is how we build community and quality of life in Dallas. Why did the city manager add to the government relations department just to have staff attend the same meetings as elected officials? If you need a recap of a meeting, put an AI assistant on the virtual meeting and get it without a staffer. Dallas, wake up! You're paying the highest tax rate in the state (minus El Paso) and what are you getting? The give-away of your city hall to billionaires? This is why homeowner tax payments and rent are so high and stores have had to raise prices! Let's be real, the Mavs have said Valley View is a viable option for them. This keeps city hall and brings REVENUE TO SOUTHERN DALLAS through the mall TIF. This is the investment the whole city needs. Sorry if some folks can't stand under the banner of "I saved downtown Dallas." Downtown needs more residents, more police, more enforcement of homelessness and basic laws. Let's incentivize office to residential conversion and make downtown Dallas the most desirable place in the country for young professionals to live!
