More than 200 people showed up for a No Kings protest in Frisco early Saturday, waving flags and holding colorful signs with messages opposing the Trump administration, rising gas prices and the war in Iran. Other protests are scheduled across D-FW on Saturday, including a noon rally at Dallas City Hall. Follow live updates: bit.ly/4sFG8Dy 📸: Azul Sordo/Staff Video Producer

Conversations about city real estate, including City Hall, were more reasonable in 2023. I’m glad to see there have been conversations since 2023 by those trying to move the city forward to the future. (Whether the right way or not I don’t know.). The 2026 drama is a lot.

One thing I don’t understand about Dallas City Hall discussions: why is everyone is acting like we first heard about the idea of leaving City Hall a few months ago? @CandysDirt and @apriltowery3 covered it back in Oct 2023. candysdirt.com/2023/10/04/cou…

@JustinVos @LeoWhelan4 The Bridge is an excellent facility, great team, and the extent of services is vast. But I agree, moving the shelter out of downtown would be good for the CBD.

Dallas' 42 Million Dollar Homeless Park In 2024 Dallas City Council approved their 3rd Deck Park, it's promised to be what Klyde Warren Park and the newly opened Halperin Park are. A big park over Highway 30. A park with a catch, its adjacent to one of the city's largest homeless shelters (see picture below). The Bridge Homeless Shelter serves 800 homeless people a day. Annually, The Bridge serves 85% of the homeless population of Dallas County, that equated to 6,717 people in our last fiscal year (their statistics, not mine.) Nearly 1000 homeless people a day five feet away from this new park. Now I'm not going to throw our vulnerable population under the bus but I'd say that some of these individuals probably have some substance abuse issues and the nearby park might be a great haven for those activities to take place. I don't know about others, but this definitely is not the place I'm bringing my kids to and is not the promised connectivity of Downtown to the Cedars. The city should consider scrapping the park or moving the shelter because I have a hard time believing that both can exist harmoniously. The $42 million might be better spent building the fake Valley View/Midtown/International District Park that the city has lied to citizens about for years. keranews.org/news/2024-09-1…

@EastDallasMike @JustinVos I’m not sure what the percentage is, 90 seems very high though. Housing Forward should provide this statistic, but I haven’t seen it. I do know that the city lacks beds for complex behavioral issues as you describe, and this is a major problem.

@JustinVos Very well summarized. As a long-time downtown worker, I suspect that 90% of the homeless suffer from untreated mental illness and then 90% of those also suffer from substance addiction. A deck park just outside of The Bridge could be problematic.

@bluelivesmtr The ones that get in trouble resulting in exclusions, often change up their name slightly to sneak into another healthcare entity, which is exactly what this one did. Be careful when headed to a Med Spa…

Dear God WHAT did we just watch?!?! An Atlanta-based plastic surgeon has been hit with multiple malpractice lawsuits for negligence. This comes after she was dancing and singing while performing surgery and it was all for social media, apparently. One of the lawsuits she was hit with is from a family that claims the doctor left their mother brain damaged. REPOST for exposure! #thinblueline #Lawenforcement

@LeoWhelan4 @anitachildress Hmmm.. I forgot how aligned we still are with TC…. In the Cedars the artsy stuff we do is privately funded. Wish these communities would look within themselves. KBT doesn’t need to take on art projects.

@Elizabeth_TX1 @anitachildress Just down the road in Austin TC is about to spend $15M on art work in public spaces. KBT can’t help herself, she’s in a race with her mentor to catch the mentally ill woman who ran Houston into the ground with frivolous waste of taxpayer $$$ on garbage.

FINDING YOURSELF??: This is NOT what the city should be doing. How much taxpayer money and time are we wasting on finding our "neighborhood identity"? The has nothing to do with city government's core purpose and function. Please stick to the program.
Kimberly Bizor Tolbert@KBTDallasCM

Neighborhood identity matters. The City is exploring new approaches to public art in shared spaces like streets and sidewalks—and we want to hear from you. Join us at upcoming community sessions to help shape what this looks like in Dallas 🎨💙

@Johnyalamo Cesar salad is fine by me. I went to a meeting when they tried to change Cadiz. It was a lovely suggested name by the city and the community shot it down. Painful /ridiculous to watch. I’m out for this round.

@JoshSkolnick_ @CandysDirt @apriltowery3 All of this chaos, and this is the first I have seen this mentioned. Nor did I recall. What are the few fighting against development of this area really fighting for. The fake preservation saga continues…

@joereform I’m not a libertarian, so your views were not obvious to me. Basically what happens is the street feeders line up all down next to the sidewalk. The homeless crowd gets so big they end up in the middle of the street. Street takeover - then no cars or pedestrians can use it.

@Elizabeth_TX1 Obviously, as a Libertarian, a lack of permits doesn't bother me, and I think that private entities can help the homeless more effectively than the government ever will. I was curious in general why whoever was handing out food thought that the middle of the street was best.

Typically during the week there is only a dozen. That’s been changing and not for the better ~75-100. I had to depart the area quickly, was getting yelled at. Almost like they don’t realize they are in public space. Turf wars.

@joereform Because no one is stopping them. Would you want this staged in a park in your neighborhood? It shouldn’t be allowed, at all. They are coming out of shelters for this. Collaborate w/ homeless solution providers in Dallas.

@Elizabeth_TX1 Why are they doing it in the middle of the street? Seems like a nearby park would be a more logical staging area.

@joereform An illegal street takeover by street feeders and the homeless. Two blocks from City Hall. Unorganized so I doubt anyone has permits, not that anyone is even checking.
