In 2016, a 55-year-old divorced father of four from Germany applied for a job. The role required him to live alone in a stone dwelling built into a cliff face in a gorge near the city of Solothurn, Switzerland. The cabin had no television, no internet, and very few modern comforts. His duties would include tending two chapels, keeping the grounds clean, assisting with weddings and baptisms, and dispensing wisdom to passing strangers.
The job title was hermit.
The position had existed continuously since 1442. The previous occupant had just resigned. So had the one before her. Both left for the same reason: too many people.
Michael Daum was a former police officer who had left the force, studied Catholic theology and the meditation practices of monks, and spent years looking for something quieter. He was selected from twenty-two applicants. The city council president said they had found "a charismatic personality," which is not a quality most people associate with hermits.
Daum moved into the hermitage on October 1st 2016. He lives there rent-free and earns around two thousand Swiss francs a month. The gorge is a signposted tourist attraction. Visitors can book a group session with him for one hundred and fifty francs to hear him talk about his life.
When he arrived he said he felt called by God.
He is still there.
Could you give up your phone and internet for a month in exchange for total peace and quiet?

Broooo, for real!!! As a kid, I used to see him as that cheap, overbearing dad. Always counting coins, clipping coupons, stressing over every little thing. Funny how he was so annoying to me back then.
But Now? Damn... It’s a whole different story.
I now realize he was just teaching us money discipline, showing us that every small saving you make could help you survive.
That man was a hero. Worked multiple jobs, fixed cars, kept the household running, and even sacrificed his own comfort so that his kids could have the opportunities he never had. Every rule he enforced, every blunt warning, wasn’t him being cruel. It was basically him preparing his kids for how real life worked.
Julius is the kind of dad you roll your eyes at as a kid but then grow up to realize he is a masterclass in responsibility as an adult.

@KenyaPower_Care Unable to purchase tokens tonight @KenyaPower_Care. What's the problem?
English

Almost 24 hours without power! @KenyaPower_Care know where the issue is (because we've shown them) but they're still unwilling to sort it out. Taxpayers, and their economic activities, at the mercy of utility providers.

I watched a guy on the bus today. 6:45 AM in the morning while jogging, His eyes looked heavy, like he was carrying the weight of an entire lineage on his shoulders. But immediately he sat down, he brought out his phone and started scrolling TikTok.
As a Biomedical Engineer, I wanted to snatch that phone from his hand.
See, let me tell you the bitter truth nobody wants to hear.
Most of you are not lazy or "unlucky." You are chemically sabotaging your own destiny before you even brush your teeth.
The first 60 minutes of your day is a war zone. Your brain is begging for direction. It runs on dopamine, that’s the fuel for your motivation. But what do you do?
You wake up. Your eyes haven't even adjusted to the darkness of your room, and gbam, you pick up your phone.
You check WhatsApp to see who ignored you. You check X to see who is fighting. You check Instagram to see your mates buying cars you can't afford yet.
You think you are just "waking up," but scientifically? You are flooding your brain with cheap, unearned dopamine. You are frying your reward system. By 8 AM, your brain is already tired. It has consumed "content" but produced nothing.
And let me speak to the men for a second.
I write about men a lot because I see what you go through. The pressure is much. You wake up and the first thought is Rent, School fees, the woman you want to impress.
It is terrifying.
So, you grab your phone to escape. The phone is your pacifier. It numbs the panic of the morning. But that comfort is a lie.
When you start your day with cheap dopamine, actual work feels like torture. You have programmed your neurochemistry to be a consumer, not a king.
You are training your brain to be weak in a world that eats weak men for breakfast.
Here is the hard truth (and you can drag me if you like):
Your morning mood doesn’t determine how your day goes. It determines your capacity to suffer for your success.
If you can’t survive the first hour of the day without a screen, how do you want to survive the economy?
Protect your first hour.
Don't touch that phone.
Stare at the ceiling. Pray. Do pushups. Go for a morning jug or walk.
Let your brain starve for a bit so it learns to hunt for the hard things.
Stop feeding your destiny to the algorithm.

If you look at the movie Limitless from a different perspective, it can be seen not just as a story about the NZT pill, but as a metaphor for cognitive enhancement and its impact on decision-making.
The effect of this cognitive super-speed on decision-making is striking: the protagonist literally sees the market of opportunities and threats at the same time. You could draw a parallel to an investor who gains instant access to all data and algorithms while everyone else operates on old models, they already have the complete picture. On a broader level, this raises important questions about the concentration of knowledge and power: who controls information, how it is distributed, and what forces emerge around those who can see and act beyond ordinary perception?

What they did is actually pretty hardcore.
To make room for a physical SIM card slot, they removed the original vibration motor module of the iPhone Air. In the space that was freed up, they installed two new components.
The first is a much smaller vibration motor, just enough to retain basic haptic feedback.
The second is the SIM tray and slot assembly, which enables support for a physical SIM card.
Essentially, they traded the original haptic system for the physical space needed to bring back a SIM card slot.

B R E A K I N G!🙀 Yes, you’re seeing this right. The iPhone Air now has a SIM card slot. This is a modified iPhone Air created by tech enthusiasts. They installed a physical SIM card tray, allowing the phone to use a physical SIM, make calls, and access mobile data normally.
