@Firebill88 @PowerMizzoucom Sometimes I feel there is a misunderstanding between expectations and goals. Would it be safe to say Gates is meeting expectations but falling short of goals? OR, is the expectation higher than 20+ wins and a trip to the tournament?

Gabe, I don't know how many fans fall into that extreme category you're talking about, but I feel like you give them way too much attention & focus. IMO, most of the fan base is naturally disappointed in how the season ended. Not a disaster, but Mid. We're tired of being mid & we're right to expect more. That's why we support Mizzou Athletics. We donate, buy tickets, buy merchandise, get all hyped up when the teams give us hope. And I feel like we want more content & discussion around what's needed to get to the next level vs constantly calling out the extremists for being extreme. Respectfully -- Stop giving them attention, please.

I think Dennis Gates is a pretty good coach. I think he’s done a solid job at #Mizzou. But next year is a legitimate prove-it season. It’s time to show up in March.

@StavaonSTL @RockMNation If you're giving Gates' first 4 seasons a C grade what makes it better for you? The last 3 coaches are a combined 0-4 in the tournament over 11 seasons. Gates is 1-3 over 4. Is the difference from a C to a B or A grade really only 2 wins in the 1st round?

@brett_burr54 @RetroGamerDad17 @cdotharrison I get what you’re saying, and I would agree 20+ wins and making the tournament are fair expectation. If Gates makes a sweet 16 twice and a final 4 in the next 4 years he’d arguably be the second most successful coach in program history.

Making the tournament as a P4 is the absolute lowest bar.

@MaggieLJohnson I wish I could’ve been a fan back when Mizzou was making BCS bowl games and final 4 runs regularly. Then I’d be comfortable putting that expectation on them like everyone else. 10 seed lost to 7 seed and we should fire everyone?

@RetroGamerDad17 @cdotharrison Make the tournament every year. Not making it is a failed season. Make the Sweet 16 once every 3-ish years. Then hopefully one of those S16 runs turns into a Final Four. Those are realistic goals for P4 teams that aren’t a blue blood.

@cdotharrison They go into next year with a potential NBA lottery pick at guard and one of the better overall recruiting classes I’ve ever seen them have. Maybe they can show they are a viable one and done option going forward. Could be a lot more than “blah” next year.

I don’t know where Missouri goes as a basketball program from here. They aren’t good. They aren’t bad. They aren’t good in March but they make the tournament. They are just blah.

I keep hearing that I was too harsh this morning on commenters who hate the Oli extension. But my question would be this: If it's virtually universally agreed upon that the waning Mozeliak years saw the Cardinals org fall behind in numerous areas to lead to the club's downfall in the standings--areas that Bloom was brought in to specifically address from the POBO seat--why is it that you're so content to assign Oli's value strictly to his win-loss record and nothing else? During this stretch where we all openly acknowledge there were a lot of other things happening with the Cardinals under Mo that fell way behind to cause the less competitive seasons? Criticize and critique the manager, absolutely. That's part of the fun. But what I kept challenging people to do is give me something other than 'he hasn't won enough' as your reasoning, because I think that surface level evaluation misses a lot of what's going on. If that makes me a hater or a stooge for the organization, okie dokie gang.

@JD23889 Yeah Mozeliak swallowed a lot of pride after 2023 (necessary) and made some good changes to the organization that we will benefit greatly from in the future. These changes have culminated in a second place farm system. Were healthier now than we were then despite a weak MLB team

Do some Cardinals fans not realize 90% of our prospects were acquired in the Mozeliak era? Wetherholt, Doyle, Rainiel, Baez, Matthews…all Mozeliak era. People just say anything on here for likes.

@BKSportsTalk If you’re going to trade Donovan this is maximum value. Only a few lineups were missing a guy like him so trade partners were limited. Donnie is a real solid ballplayer. However, he’s a guy you need to complete a lineup not a guy to build a lineup around.

@ornerydonowitz @CoyoteRaider I don't. I think the SEC and Big 10 are actually pretty equal in terms of overall conference strength. I think that's evidnet because both conferences have had 8 teams make the playoffs in the last 3 seasons.

The SEC won one playoff game that wasn’t against another SEC opponent and it was against Tulane They lost all other games by a combined score of 79-33

@CoyoteRaider Might feel that way but it's just not true. 2014-2023 the 4 team playoff had 2 SEC teams maybe twice. Last year in the new 12 team SEC had 3 teams.

@BKSportsTalk Drink is somehow expected to acomplish something that has not been acomplished by Mizzou football. We're more likely to go back to 6-6 every year with a new coach than we are to elevate beyond 8-10 win seasons.

Question we just discussed today: Who are non-blue blood programs in the past 5-10 years who had the breakthrough season fans are clamoring for *and* then sustained that success & won as consistently as #Mizzou has the past 3 years (28 wins over the past 3 seasons)?

@nchapman21 @BKSportsTalk He elevated the program simply by forcing conversations/comments like this. We went from 6-6 to “why aren’t we beating top 10 teams and making the playoff” with coach Drink.

This simply isn’t true. I don’t know why we have to pretend the 2023 season didn’t happen.#Mizzou went 10-2 and finished ranked 9th in the country. If the CFP expanded a year earlier, the Tigers would’ve qualified. That happened. Drink was the coach. Stop pretending it didn’t.
