🚀 🚀 March 23rd, 2012 - 14 years ago today. Ariane 5 lifted off with ATV-3 Edoardo Amaldi on its way to the International Space Station. Reaching the ISS required more than just getting to orbit. To meet the station days later at a precise time and location, the spacecraft needed to begin its journey with extremely precise orbital parameters. This level of accuracy is achieved during the launch phase, when the launcher places the spacecraft on the exact trajectory required for the mission. Named after Italian physicist Edoardo Amaldi, ATV-3 was one of Europe’s most advanced space logistics spacecraft, delivering cargo, propellant and supplies to astronauts aboard the station. For missions like ATV, the success of the rendezvous begins at launch. #LaunchingAmbitions
