@willwhite003 @patrickc @stripe You're not alone. There's a group on Facebook for those who appreciate the KX100 and it's siblings. Accessible opening, lightweight door, no step, better lighting and when kept clean has lasted a lot longer than rusting cast iron that needed to be repainted every 2 yrs.
English

We got these phone booths (a K6 from the 1930s, and a KX100 from the 1990s) for the @stripe lobby, as a reminder that there are always two paths in everything we make: something that elevates and makes you smile, or, well, whatever the thing on the right is.

English

@patrickc @stripe The KX range are the bookend to the heritage line of enclosed public telephone kiosks designed for / operated by the state telecoms monopoly operator BT. KX made payphones accessible to users (incl disabled) who couldn't pull open the very heavy doors on the older red kiosks.

NEWS: Bangor University's brutalist Brambell Laboratory (1969-71) - derided as 'Eyesore of the year' upon its completion - and the New Arts building (1963) have become the latest post-war listings in Wales.
Both were designed by architects Sir Percy Thomas & Son, and have been designated at Grade II and Grade I respectively.

These relics of 1960s design are protected thanks to applications by phone box enthusiast @K8iosk.
There are now 23 K8s on the National Heritage List for England.

@K8iosk I have not been in touch with Dave Wenlock since the early 1990s.
English

@MikeAbbott2 Do you know if Dave Wenlock is still around, are you in touch with him?
English

@K8iosk Yes, I worked with Dave - 'Mr Payphone'. We worked together for a few years as part of a payphone rescue team. He was BT London, based in Hatfield, while I was in the Customer Communications Unit, based at various addresses including Telephone House, Temple Lane...
English

@MikeAbbott2 Great. I've messaged the right version of you on facebook (I think), to chat further.
English

Delivery from @ComicPrintingUK - like a midwife delivering a child that no one will ever want but the parent enjoyed making!

English

Just for @K8iosk because I know he likes these Olympic boxes
This is at Preston Hospital and hasn't been used for many many years

English

@Swingbridge2 @Lostock_Henge @Prestonphonebox An American company called Phillips & Brooks, then GKN
English

@Lostock_Henge @Prestonphonebox So here's a complicated question. Who made the initial run of KX kiosks?
GKN Sankey ?
English

Interesting shot of one of the older members of @Prestonphonebox family. Dates to early 80's as it says British Telecom not Post Office

English

@_doublearrow Can they perhaps make the symbol a bit smaller? Srysly. One of the best legacy manuals on public transportation branding and clear directional signage IN THE WORLD, and someone thinks this crappy sign is worthy of being printed, let alone displayed. Pah!
English

@NigelLinge Interesting find. I wonder if this is a later adaption or was an original (un)official PO/BT era build
English

@modernistsoc Could request the original planning file from the council...
English

@letterappsoc @NigelLinge @Rubyroo14 The phoneybox in Wrexham make recast versions and a plastic variant too. Or, Unicorn Restorations in Redhill or X2connect in Newark might be able to help with an original.
English

@NigelLinge @K8iosk @Rubyroo14 Bit random but would you know where to get a spare top panel for a K6? Just to stop the rain getting in and ruining the postcards. Many thanks.
Handwritten Letter@letterappsoc
You know, even if no-one found them, it honestly makes me so happy sticking these up in the phone box thinking of all the people sending a postcard to someone they don’t know just to say hello. Thanks everso to everyone who has. You are truly lovely. 🥰📞✉️❤️

The knitted phone box collection goes modern with a KX100 and KX100+ @BTArchives @Rubyroo14 @BrekkyAliButts

And, since ‘Arrows of desire’ is really all about transport and design, who better to set the scene at the start of the book than Daniel Wright, @BeautyOfTranspt, whose introductory essay is a masterpiece…

@jamesofputney They found our neighbours' cherry tree two years ago and seemingly never left...
