The California Air Resource Board released its Q1 2023 Data Update for its Low Carbon Fuel Standard (#LCFS). As the first update under 2023’s new CI benchmark, most renewable fuels in the program showed notable decreases in crediting, and varied change in volumes. (1/5)

Between the changing distribution of competitive feedstocks and expanding production capacity of #RenewableDiesel and other marginal biofuels, the SAF volumetric jump seems logical. However, Q1’s SAF volume is still 200,000+ gallons below the historical max for the program…(4/5)

@wombat_ee We feel pretty good about it, and so does the industry! LFG has been an important part of the renewable energy mix since the 70-80's. The only real limitations are scale, and the feasibility of connecting smaller projects to the grid.

After much anticipation, the @EPA released the final #RVOs for 2023, 2024, and 2025 #RenewableFuels: #eRINs, a portion of the #D3 RVO to be attributed to #CNG for Electricity, have not been included. Thus, the final D3 requirement is much lower than proposed in December 2022.

The #LCFS credit bank grew 2% to a record 15.1 million in Q4 2022, according to @AirResources data released today. While deficits grew 5%, the pace was not enough to match soaring volumes of #RenewableDiesel, #CompressedNaturalGas, and #Electricity credits.

@OilandGibbs @TheTerminal Also feedstock prices have gone down significantly over the past year and LCFS credits currently moving upwards–soybean oil futures below $55/lb, LCFS up ~25% since Jan 2023. That means margins less reliant on RINs?

@OilandGibbs @TheTerminal In 2021 BBD production was higher than the RVO–3 billion vs 2.43 billion gallons. Perhaps RVO acts as a floor more than a cap if production is exceeding mandated volumes?
